Lake McClure Campgrounds offer campers a great opportunity to enjoy nature and a variety of outdoor recreation in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada. The lake is located 43 miles east of Modesto and about 47 miles south of Yosemite National Park. There are four campgrounds located around the lake including Barrett Cove, Horseshoe Bend, McClure Point and Bagby. All of the campgrounds have single-family campsites (some with water & electric) and group camping. Each also has a boat launch ramp. The area also offers a variety of outdoor recreation including boating, fishing, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddle-boarding, sailing, water skiing, hiking, mountain biking and picnicking. There’s also some really nice wildlife viewing.
Barrett Cove Recreation Area / Campground is located on the northwest shoreline of Lake McClure at an elevation of 920 feet. It is the largest campground on Lake McClure and has 249 campsites spread out over rolling hills. Approximately 89 of the sites have water & electric hookups. There’s also walk-in (tent only) sites, group camping and cabins available. Because of the hilly terrain, many of the sites are uneven and the parking pads are quite steep. Some may even require a 4WD.
Campground amenities include water, flush toilets, hot showers, a dump statin, camp store, marina & café and boat launch ramp. The Exchequer Mountain Bike Park is also located right at the campground.
Horseshoe Bend Recreation Area / Campground is situated on the northern most point of the lake and nestled among a few nice coves. The campground is also just a few miles from the historic town of Coulterville. There are 97 single-family campsites and 35 have water & electric hookups. The G-loop is on top of a hill with great views of the lake.
Campground amenities include water, flush toilets, shows, a dump station, camp store (seasonal) and launch ramp. There’s also a nice day use/picnic area and swimming lagoon.
McClure Point Recreation Area / Campground has 100 campsites and is situated around a few pretty coves on the western shore of the lake. Most of the campsites have nice views of the lake and 43 have water & electric. The recreation area also has a day use/picnic area, swimming lagoon and boat ramp. The campground has water, flush toilets, showers and a dump station.
We don’t have any photos yet of Bagby, but hope to in the near future.

Camp Ranger
