Riverside County Parks Campgrounds

There are 8 Riverside County Parks Campgrounds scattered throughout the county’s 7,206 square miles. With the addition of Lake Skinner and Rancho Jurupa Park, we have campsite photos and information for 5 of them.

Lake Skinner Recreation Area

Located close to the town of Winchester, Lake Skinner Recreation Area is a beautiful and well-maintained county park with a large campground. Of the 257 campsites, there are 199 with full hookups. The lake offers great fishing, and there’s also a marina with boat rentals. The park also has two playgrounds, a water splash pad, camp store, restaurant, RV/boat storage lot, picnic areas and a large amphitheater.

Rancho Jurupa Park

Rancho Jurupa Park is in the Rubidoux/Jurupa Valley area of Riverside and offers a very clean and well-maintained campground with 131 campsites set up in two loops. The Cottonwood loop has 60 full hookup sites, paved roads, pads, a laundry, and modern restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers. Six cabins are also available near this loop. The Lakeview loop is more primitive, but closer to the fishing lakes. There are 80 campsites in this loop, and 61 have water & electric hookups. Ten others have full hookups.  There’s also 2 playgrounds, a miniature golf course, disc golf course, camp store, picnic areas and water-splash pad.

Lake Cahuilla Recreation Area Park

This 710-acre park is at the base of the Santa Rosa Mountains and a few miles from the town of La Quinta. The campground’s 91 campsites overlook the 135-acre Lake Cahuilla and include 55 hookup sites, 35 primitive sites and 20 equestrian sites. The campground is very well maintained and also has a dump station, flush toilets, hot showers and free WiFi. No swimming is allowed in the lake, but you can cool off in the swimming pool. There’s also a picnic area, playground, sand volleyball courts, and trails to hike, bike and ride horses.

Hurkey Creek Park

You’ll find Hurkey Creek campground up in a cool pine forest close to Lake Hemet at an elevation of 4,432 feet in the San Jacinto Mountains. There are 131 campsites (no hookups) for tents, trailers and RVs. The park also has a playground, large picnic area, flush toilets and hot showers.  It’s a great place for hiking, mountain bike riding, horseback riding and fishing over at Lake Hemet.

Idyllwild Park

Idyllwild Park is just a short 8 mile drive from Hurkey Creek Park and is located next to the quaint town of Idyllwild in the San Jacinto Mountains. The campground is in a small canyon area with large granite boulders and mature pine and oak trees. Most of the 88 campsites have nice shade. There’s also a playground, hiking trails, picnic area and amphitheater here. You can also get some fishing in at nearby Lake Fulmor.

There are also a few other Riverside County Parks Campgrounds we hope to add soon. Those include McCall Memorial Equestrian Campground, Bogart Regional Park and Mayflower Regional Park.
