The Best Campgrounds Near Bridgeport

Our list of the best campgrounds near Bridgeport include beautiful camping locations near some of the best fishing in the Sierra Nevada. In fact, Twin Lakes holds the California State record for the largest brown trout, and it’s not a bad place to practice your photography!

Bridgeport is located in a spectacular alpine valley in the heart of the Eastern Sierra at an elevation of 6,463 feet. More specifically, you can find the town at the intersection of U.S. Route 395 and State Route 182. It’s also a short drive to Mammoth Lakes, Yosemite National Park, Bodie and Mono Lake.

The Bridgeport area features majestic mountains, streams, rivers, hot springs and lakes.  Area recreation includes fishing, boating, hiking, mountain biking, OHVing, horseback riding, hunting, backpacking and wildlife viewing. In the winter visitors can also enjoy snowmobiling, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

Bootleg Campground

Bootleg has 63 single-family campsites set among a beautiful forest of Jeffrey Pines on a hillside about a mile from the Walker River. The campground is well maintained, most sites are relatively large, and the vibe is chill.  The campground has water, flush toilets and firewood is available for sale from the camp host. It is usually open late May to mid September and is first-come, first-serve.

Buckeye Campground

Buckeye is a secluded campground that is reached by a 3-mile (well-maintained) dirt road.  It has 65 single-family campsites and all are first-come first-serve. The campground is spread out and most sites are large with good privacy. Buckeye Creek is near the campground, but you’ll need to hike a bit to find a good fishing hole. It is usually open late May to late September. Water is not available, but there is one flush toilet and vault toilets at the campground. Each site also has a paved parking spur, table, fire ring and grate. Firewood is available for sale. As an added bonus, there are some hot springs a few miles away!

Chris Flat Campground

Chris Flat is a small, first-come first-serve campground located on the shores of the Walker River. One group campsite is also available. Most sites have decent privacy and a few are river front. Water and vault toilets are available. Firewood is also available for sale from the camp host. Usually open late April to early October.

Crags Campground

Crags campground is located near Robinson Creek and closer to the Twin Lakes Area. It is about 10 miles from Bridgeport and has 46 single-family campsites in two loops (Matterhorn – closer to Robinson Creek, and Sawtooth). Reservations are accepted and it is usually open late April to mid October. Campsites also have some pretty spectacular views of the Sawtooth Ridge.  Amenities include water, flush toilets and firewood ($).

Honeymoon Flat Campground

Honeymoon is located next to Robinson Creek and about 8 miles from Bridgeport. The campground is usually open from mid May to early September and accepts reservations. There are 28 campsites and each has a food storage locker, table, fire ring and BBQ pedestal.  Amenities include water, vault toilets and firewood ($). Lower and Upper Twin Lakes are also just up the road.

Lower Twin Lakes Campground

Lower Twin Lakes makes our list of best campgrounds near Bridgeport because it has 14 sweet campsites just below the lake and along Robinson Creek. It offers a great basecamp for some world-class fishing in the area. Amenities include water, flush toilets and firewood ($). Reservations are also recommended and it is usually open mid May to early October.

Paha has 21 campsites next to Robinson Creek and set among beautiful Jeffrey and Lodgepole pines. Reservations are accepted and it is open early May to mid October. Amenities include water, flush toilets and firewood ($).  Fishing is great in the area, as is hiking, horseback riding and wildlife viewing.

Robinson Creek Campground

Robinson Creek has 53 single-family campsites in two loops. It’s about 9 miles from Bridgeport and located next to the creek. It’s a popular campground and reservations are recommended during the peak season (early May through October).  Amenities include an amphitheater (summer programs), water and vault toilets. Firewood is also available for sale from the camp host.

Trumbull Lake Campground

Located next to Trumbull Lake, the campground has 45 campsites and some have partial views of the scenic lake. There are also a few double and triple campsites available. Amenities include water, vault toilets and firewood ($). The 100-acre lake is one of ten alpine lakes in the area.

Sonora Bridge Campground

Sonora Bridge campground has 23 spacious and private campsites scattered amidst the shade of towering Jeffrey pines in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. The campground is a short drive to the West Walker River and a picnic area near Tule Lake. The first come, first serve campground is usually open in late April to early October. Amenities include a vault toilet, but no water.  The camp host also sells firewood.
