If your planning a camping trip to the Rocky Mountains, then you may want to consider Lone Rock & Esterbrook campgrounds. And, as luck would have it, we recently added all of the campsite photos for those two darling campgrounds. Both campgrounds are sitting at an elevation of about 6,400 feet and offer breathtaking views of the mountains and rivers. They also both offer a variety of outdoor recreation your family will be sure to enjoy!
Lone Rock
Lone Rock Campground is located in Pike National Forest and has 19 campsites on a hillside rising up from the South Platte River. The campsites have a great view of the river and some are right on the river bank. Lone Rock campground has two vault toilets and drinking water from a community hydrant available. Each campsite has a table, fire ring and grill. In addition to camping, the South Platte River also offers world-class fly fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and rafting. Other activities include backpacking, hiking, biking, and wildlife viewing. Lone Rock Campground is known for a great place to view moose, deer, owls, eagles and other wildlife.
Esterbrook
Esterbrook is a smaller campground with a total of 12 campsites and is located in the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest in Wyoming. Don’t bother making reservations, because this campground is first-come, first-serve. The campsites can accommodate up to ten people per campsite with two vehicles and trailers (up to 22 feet long). Esterbrook campground has drinking water and vault toilets. Each campsite has a table, fire ring and grate.
There is plenty of outdoor recreation fun up at these campgrounds including: lean-to fort building, horseback riding, hunting, OHVing, hiking, biking, and wildlife viewing. Esterbrook is also quite the hot spot for fishing due to the nearby creeks and lakes.
