Ballinger Campground has 13 large campsites located in an ATV / motorcycle use area among the badlands of Los Padres National Forest.
The primitive and secluded campground is open year round. Campsites have scenic views of the badlands and easy access to ATV trails. Campground amenities include vault toilets and trash collection. Potable (drinking) water is not available. Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each site also has a table, fire ring and grill. The campsites have no barriers or boulders, so all sizes of toy haulers, trailers and campers do well here. You should plan to be completely self-sustainable for the duration of your trip. Cell service is poor in the area.
The Ballinger Campground and day use areas are best appreciated by OHV enthusiasts. ATVs/Quad Runners/Dual Sports/Single track, will find access to 68 miles of marked and rated trails that range from novice-friendly hard packed trails, twisty sand washes, open play areas to steep and rugged black diamond, all accessed from your scenic high desert camping spot. Explore 11 four-wheel drive roads, 12 all-terrain vehicle (ATV) trails, and 14 motorcycle trails, which include loose dirt, hard pack, sand, steep hills, and a few jumps and berms. Stargazing is also pretty nice at the campground.
Other campgrounds in the area include Campo Alto (40 miles) and Reyes Creek (22 miles).
