Anza Borrego Desert State Park

Anza Borrego Desert State Park is the largest of the state parks in California. The Park offers a vast and spectacular desert wilderness to explore and it should be filled with wildflowers around the dates of the Music Festival. The two established campgrounds in the Park include: Borrego Palm Canyon (120 campsites including 51 RV sites with electric hookups) and Tamarisk Grove (27 campsites). In addition, there are other backcountry campsites. Anza Borrego is approximately 64 miles or about an hour from the Coachella Valley Music Festival.

Joshua Tree National Park includes 800,000 acres, 3 ecosystems and a desert wonderland offering a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities. Visitors to the park can hike, bike, horseback ride, visit historic sites, climb many of the famous granite boulders, tour on 4WD roads, enjoy the unique wildlife and camp in 9 established campgrounds. The 9 campgrounds include: Indian Cove (approximately 100 campsites and 13 group sites), Black Rock Canyon (approximately 100 campsites, group camping available), Hidden Valley (45 campsites), Ryan (32 campsites), Sheep Pass (6 group campsites), Jumbo Rocks (123 campsites), Belle (20 campsites), White Tank (15 campsites), and Cottonwood (approximately 63 campsites). The campgrounds vary as to the facilities so be sure to click on the campground link for more information. Depending on where you are located in the Park you could be 40 minutes to 90 minutes from the Coachella Valley Music Festival.

Salton Sea State Recreation Area

The Salton Sea State Recreation Area features one of the world’s largest inland seas and the lowest spot on earth at -227 feet below sea level. The area is popular with campers, boaters, angles, kayakers, photographers and birdwatchers. There are six campgrounds around the lake offering a total of 1,500 campsites. Most of the campsites are primitive beach camping, but developed campgrounds include Varner Harbor Campground (15 full hookup sites), New Camp (25 standard sites) and Mecca Beach with 109 paved campsites (some with full hookups). All three developed campgrounds have flush toilets, hot showers and water. The Salton Sea Recreation area is 25 miles or about 35 minutes from the Coachella Valley Music Festival.

Lake Cahuilla Recreation Area (Riverside County Park)

Lake Cahuilla Recreation area is a beautiful 710-acre park located at the base of the Santa Rosa Mountains about 6 miles south east of La Quinta. The park has a nice 135-acre lake with some fine fishing, large lawn areas, playground, swimming pool, horseback riding trails, hiking trails and large picnic areas. Lake Cahuilla campground has 55 hookup sites for RVs and Trailers, 20 equestrian campsites and 35 primitive campsites. It also has a dump station, flush toilets, hot showers and free WiFi. Each campsite has a picnic table, fire ring and grill. Lake Cahuilla Recreation Area is about 7 miles from the Coachella Valley Music Festival.
