Campgrounds in 28 California State Parks opened today (Friday, June 12). State Park officials are currently working with county health departments and hope to reopen more campgrounds in the coming weeks.
San Elijo State Beach
The campgrounds will be at 50% capacity initially (every other campsite). Restrooms and showers will also be open, but visitor centers will remained closed. In addition, some amenities such as fire rings and playground equipment may also be closed to help reduce crowds.
Big Basin Redwoods State Park
Most of the reopened campgrounds are in Southern California, along the beaches from San Diego County to Santa Barbara. Also, several state park campgrounds in the Lake Tahoe area, Little Basin (near Big Basin Redwoods State Park), Half Moon Bay State Beach and in other counties are open.
