California wildfires have recently burned thousands of acres of State Park land, including redwood forests, campsites and other structures. Several State Parks & Campgrounds have been closed indefinitely as a result of the fires. To date, recent fires have burned over 1.5 million acres throughout the state this August.
Big Basin Redwoods State Park was particularly hard hit by the CZU Lightning Complex Fire. Hundreds of ancient redwoods were lost, as well as the park’s headquarters and other buildings.
California State Park officials have said that those with camping reservations are being notified and will receive “full refunds”.
