Devils Elbow Cabin Overview

Devils Elbow Cabin - Tongas National Forest

Devils Elbow Cabin is located on a narrow isthmus of land surrounded by tidal flats in a very remote area of Tongass National Forest (AK). It is 40 air miles or 66 water miles from Petersburg, and 26 water miles from Kake.  The cabin can accommodate up to 7 people and is available April through October.

Amenities include 2 double bunk beds, a sleeping loft, table and benches, oil heater (#1 fuel only), vault outhouse. Water is also available from a creek about 1/4 mile south of the cabin. Make sure you treat the water before using. Visitors need to bring fuel for the oil heater (#1 stove oil or kerosene), food, sleeping bags, TP, garbage bags, a fire extinguisher and fire starter. You can also bring your own water.

The area is excellent for viewing waterfowl and other wildlife such as goose, grouse, seal and bear. Coho salmon fishing can be good. Other activities include kayaking, canoeing, hiking and hunting. There area is also great for rock hounding!
