Starrigavan Campground is located in a temperate rainforest overlooking Starrigavan Bay about 7 miles north of Sitka. Campsites are reservable May 1 thru October. They are also available on a first-come first serve basis other times of the year.
Some sites have nice views of the bay and others are close to the creek. The campground has 26 campsites suitable for tents, trailers and RVs (up to 38 feet). There are also 9 walk-to (tent only) site, a cabin and 2 small group campsites (tent only).
Campground amenities include drinking water, vault toilets, bear-proof lockers and seasonal trash collection. Firewood is also available for sale for a small fee. the nearest dump station is in Sitka. Each campsite also has a table, fire ring and grate.
Sitka, Alaska is located on Baranof Island, along the outer coast of Alaska’s Inside Passage. Starrigavan Campground is located in the Tongass National Forest which is the largest unit in the national forest system, almost 17 million acres. The area has abundant wildlife including a variety of animals, birds and fish. Visitors will often see deer, bear, eagles and many other forest creatures.
Outdoor recreation includes fishing, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, picnicking, photography and wildlife viewing. There are also historic and cultural sites in the area.
