I don’t like to write negative reviews, but I was very disappointed immediately on arrival. When I stepped out of the truck to check in, I could not help but notice how bad it smelled. Kind of like over deodorized septic, it smelled horrible. When there was a breeze, it wasn’t so bad The sites are much closer than they appear on the reservation website. COE campgrounds usually have more space between sites, not here. Bathhouse also was not good. I arrived on Thanksgiving day with plans to stay the long weekend, but left on Friday morning. Did learn that the smell was from a paper plant across the river.

  2. Awesome camp ground beautiful and very quiet and secluded.
But let’s get a few things right on some other reviews. Let’s start with smell, the paper mill is 8 miles away as the crow flys. To drive to it it’s approximately 30 miles. Not right across the river! When there is no wind or Lite West Northwest wind you get the smell. On ants well they are here remember you are camping. They cleanup what you don’t! Take a few precautions and keep them under control. I also found some trash around figured that one out. It’s not people it’s raccoons. If you don’t hang your garbage on poles if you put it outside they will get in it, then the ants do their job cleaning up.
I love the outdoors and river side this is a place if you want peaceful, shaded, relaxing atmosphere. This is it!

  3. First off I and my 3 kids stayed one night as a guest with my sister. The campground itself is great! We love the Alabama river and it’s a beautiful place. So in saying that my rating is solely on the camp host. He was so rude and disrespectful and so many other things that made me never want to step foot back on this place!! You work so hard during the week at your job and then just want to come and spend good quality time with your family and then get there to be treated like an animal! This guy shouldn’t be allowed to treat people like this!!
