Hilltop Campground is located near Lynx Lake and is in the Prescott National Forest. There are 36 campsites including 3 double campsites available for tents, trailers and RVs (up to 40 feet). The campground has paved roads and parking spurs, as well as vault toilets and drinking water. Each campsite has a table, fire ring and grill. The double campsites have shade structures. When there are no fire restrictions, the camp host generally has firewood for sale. Campfires in developed fire pits only.
You can walk from Hilltop Campground to Lynx Lake or drive down to the picnic area to boat, canoe, kayak, fish and picnic. You can also drive to the camp store and cafe at Lynx Lake. Boat rentals are also available there and there’s a boat ramp at the Lynx Lake picnic area. Other outdoor activities include backpacking, hiking, biking, horseback riding, rock climbing and wildlife viewing. Cell service is fair.
Three other Prescott Area campgrounds include Lynx Lake, Eagle Group and White Spar.

We have reserved Campsite #24 from 9/8/18-9/10/18. Do you have firewood for purchase or can I bring my own?
Thanks.
Hi Dan,
The campground host at Hilltop campground (Lynx Lake Recreation Area) generally sells firewood when there are no fire restrictions. At present (Aug 20, 2018), there are no fire restrictions in the Prescott National Forest / Hilltop campground. I would recommend you call the campground directly to confirm about the firewood sales:928 443-8000
Hi are you allowed have campfires during the month of june specifically 18-24th?
Hi Cristofer,
Unfortunately there are extreme/high fire conditions so the forest service is not allowing campfires at Hilltop campground or any nearby campgrounds. This will probably be the case all summer.
My son and his family are camping there Kevin Schleeter 8/21 and 8/22. We know last week you were booked, but hoping there was a cancellation and we you might have space for a 38ft RV to camp 8/20,8/21, and 8/22
Hi Sandy,
I checked an there are 2reservable campsites available for an Aug 20 (Thu) arrival and Aug 22 (Sat) departure. Those two sites are also available for just the Friday night (Aug 21). You can click on the link below to check availability, pricing and reserve. There are also several first-come, first-serve campsites at Hilltop. Those will generally be taken by Thursday or first thing Friday morning though. Your other option would be to try our Campsite Assist tool. For a one time fee, it will continually scan for cancellations on the dates you want to camp and then send you an email and text message IF a site becomes available. The message/alert would include a link to Rec.gov to try and reserve the site.
You can check current availability at Hilltop campground here: https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/273335/availability
Hello I was wondering if camping was still open from 9/11/2020 – 9/13/2020 for first come, first serve. Thank you!
Hi Eden,
Hilltop Campground is open and there are first-come, first-serve campsites available (sites 1-11) for Sep 11-13. FYI – Campfires are not allowed (Stage I Fire Restrictions in place). As all reservable sites are taken, I would recommend getting there mid morning on Friday if you can to make sure you get a campsite. Check in is 2pm and check in is 12pm, but better to get there early if people start getting in line for a site.
I’m coming up Oct18-22 20202, Looking at Forestry Service web site it looks like fire are OK in the rings provided. But wanted to confirm before I bring up firewood. Thanks
Hi Brian,
As of today, Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are still in place, but you can have a fire in the fire ring at Hilltop Campground. That may change depending on weather/wind. Here’s a link with the latest info:

Do you have any 29′ travel trailer spots open for tonight leaving Friday?
Sorry for the delayed response. Hilltop does have campsites available tonight (first-come, first-serve) that will accommodated your 29′ travel trailer.
Hello. I have booked campsite#28 & #29. They are double occupancy campsites. How many tents on ea. Can we have setup?
Hi Melanie, You can have up to 2 vehicles and 10 people in each campsite (#28 and #29). Maximum size for an RV is 40 feet. Tents are allowed and you can fit a couple of tents in #28, and probably 1 medium sized one in #29. Hope this helps!
I was hoping to see pictures of double site #33 but it is the only one missing. Does anyone have a picture? Is it a bad site?
Hi Keith,
Here is a photo of campsite #33 at Hilltop campground. You can have up to 2 vehicles and 10 people at the site. The parking pad allows for a maximum vehicle length of 40 feet. And it’s about 40 feet from parking area to camping area.
Hi…do all campsites accommodate trailers or only certain ones? We have a 39ft trailer. If we don’t get a reservation, how early can we check in for a first come first serve spot? Thank you!
Hi Elizabeth,
Only campsite #14 is ‘tent only’, the rest can have a tent, trailer or RV.
