Date of stay: Nov. 7-16, 2019, Roadrunner Campground, $32.50

We liked many things about this park, but because our stay included a three-day holiday weekend, the weather was still warm, and this park is the only one that has a lake, it was completely full and very noisy, sometimes well into quiet hours. Our site had a pretty nice lake view, but the sites are not private at all. It was a short trail walk up to the Discovery Center which had live animal displays — desert tortoise, diamondback rattlesnake, Gila monster, and fish. This park, like all the Maricopa Regional Parks, offers a variety of ranger-led activities and presentations (check their website for park-specific programs.) Shout-out to Ranger Cody, who obviously loved his many jobs here.

There is a large marina at this park which has a store and a cafe (we did not visit either.) There are miles of well-maintained multi-use trails in the park. The bathrooms were clean, with huge push-button showers and lots of hot water. Good OATV reception. Verizon 5 bars 4G

Critters spotted: wild burros live in this park!
