Riggs Lake Campground has 31 campsites and is located next to the scenic (11-acre) Riggs Flat Lake in the Coronado National Forest. All of the single campsites are first-come, first-serve. There is also one (reservable) group campsite (sites 23-27).
The campground is usually open mid April to mid November. Early or late snow may extend the inaccessible season. Amenities include drinking water, vault toilet and trash collection. There’s also a boat ramp, day use area, fish cleaning station and fishing pier. Firewood is available to purchase from the camp host. Cell service is poor in the area.
Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs up to 22 feet. Longer vehicles have difficulty negotiating the switchbacks on the road up the mountain (AZ 366). Each campsite also has a parking spur, table, fire ring and grill. The group site has 5 tables, 1 large fire ring and 2 large grills. Campsites with bear-proof food lockers are: 19, 21A, 21B, 22, 28, 29, 30, 31 and the group site.
Outdoor recreation in the area includes kayaking, canoeing, paddle-boarding, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, hunting, picnicking and stargazing. Wildlife viewing is also good in the area.
The lake’s cold waters are stocked during the summer with rainbow, brown and brook trout. Small boats are permitted on the lake, but most people fish from the shoreline.
Other campgrounds in the area include Upper Hospital Flat (Group), Treasure Park East, Treasure Park North, Soldier Creek, Columbine Corrals and Cunningham.
