Aspen Campground (also known as Aspen Grove Campground) is another jewel along the banks of Lee Vining Creek in the Inyo National Forest. The campground is has 47 campsites, many right on the creek. Group camping is also available and can be reserved. Each campsite has a table, fire ring, grill and food storage locker. The campground has drinking water and vault toilets. Campsite 39 is a double site and Aspen Campground’s best campsites are 19, 21, 25, 26, 29, 31, 39, 44 and 45. Most of the sites are pretty big and can accommodate RVs or trailers up to 40 feet. Cell service is poor in the area.
The campground gets heavy use and is first-come, first-serve so plan on getting there mid-week if you want to stay through the weekend. Fishing is fantastic along the creek and you can also enjoy hiking, biking, hunting, OHVing, horseback riding (if you bring your horse), picnicking, climbing and wildlife viewing. The campground is about 15 miles from the Tuolumne entrance to Yosemite National Park.
Other nice campgrounds in the area include Moraine, Big Bend, Ellery Lake Campground, Junction, Saddlebag Lake and Tioga Lake.

Where is the camp host camp site?
Hi Yolo,
Usually the Aspen Campground camp host is in site #1, but it may vary from year to year. Currently the campground is closed for the winter and should open in May – weather/snow permitting.
Is Aspen campground currently open or is it closed due to COVID-19 closures?
Hi Elyse, As of today (June 8), Aspen Campground (Inyo National Forest) is still closed. We’re not sure if that is due to Covid-19 or another reason. Most of these campgrounds are schedule to reopen (if Covid-19 related) in mid to late June though.
Is Aspen Grove Campground open now or will it be open 6/25/20.
Thanks!
Hi Kathy,
Aspen Campground is still closed and we have not been able to confirm when it may reopen. You can check on the US Forest Service website for status updates: https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/inyo/recarea/?recid=20636
will this campground be open in September 2022? if so what is the last date this campground will open?
Hi Gregory,
The campground is usually open through September. USFS may close a little earlier due to weather (early snow), fire conditions or lack personal to maintain.
