Barton Flats Campground has 52 spacious campsites and is one of the more developed Forest Service camps in Southern California. The campground sits at an elevation of about 6,400 feet among towering pines trees in the San Bernardino National Forest.
Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (up to 35 feet). Each site has a table, food storage locker, fire ring and grate. Eight of the campsites (7, 9, 10, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45) are ‘double sites’ which can accommodate up to 2 vehicles and 16 campers.
The campground also has drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers ($) and an RV dump station. The showers are located in the Columbine loop. Firewood is also available for sale from the campground host. Cell service is fair in the area.
The area offers a variety of activities including: wildlife watching, horseback riding, swimming in a cold mountain lake, stargazing, mountain biking, picnicking and hiking. Fishing is also available in the nearby Santa Ana River and Jenks Lake. Interpretive programs are available at Grayback Amphitheater on State Rt. 38 throughout summer months.
South Fork, Heart Bar and San Gorgonio are three other campgrounds in the area. Both are off Highway 38.
