Big Pine Creek Campground has 29 single-family campsites located along Big Pine Creek and in view of the Palisade range in the eastern Sierra Nevada. Trails from the campground lead to the largest and southern most glaciers in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The campsites can accommodate tents and small trailers/RVs. Each campsite has a table, food storage locker, fire ring and grate. Group camping is also available.
Campground amenities include delightful vault toilets. There is no potable water at this campground. Firewood is available for sale at the campground. There is also a small store and restaurant within a mile from the campground at Glacier Lodge.
Above the campground in Big Pine Canyon, the creek flows into a series of impressive glacial lakes in the North Fork Basin. These turquoise lakes sit at the eastern base of the Sierra Nevada at around 10,000 feet in elevation. The Palisade Crest rises to more than 14,000 feet. Several 14ers can be summited from this area.
In addition to incredible hiking and backpacking, there’s also great fishing in the creek. And you can’t beat the stargazing and wildlife viewing.
Other campgrounds in the area include Upper Sage Flat and Sage Flat.
