Black Canyon Equestrian & Group Campground is located in the Mojave National Preserve and about a mile from Hole-In-The-Wall campground. It offers camping for groups up to 50 people as well as equestrian campsites. Reservations open in December for the following year.
Amenities include picnic tables, fire ring, grill, water spigot, vault toilets and trash receptacles. Equestrian campsites also have a table, fire ring, grill, potable (drinking) water (spigot), vault toilets and trash receptacles. Horse corral/stalls are also available. Cell service is not available in the area.
Outdoor recreation in the area includes hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, picnicking, stargazing and wildlife viewing. Wildflower viewing can also be good in the spring.
Geologically, the region is just as diverse as it is ecologically. Mountain ranges, dry riverbeds, great mesas, towering sand dunes, striking cinders cones, domes and lava flows define Mojave. Ancient rocks that date back to 2.5 billion years old have been discovered in the Clark Mountains.
Other attractions in the area include lava tubes, Keslo Dunes and mining sites. Nearby Providence Mountains SRA also has camping and features the spectacular Mitchell Caverns.
Mid Hills campground is also located about 8 miles away. The road is dirt and challenging in spots, but most vehicles can make it. It has 26 primitive campsites (no water/vault toilets).
