We had a good experience here despite the fact that it is just 5 miles outside of Yucca Valley. We tented in site #70 and it looked just like your photo. Nicely situated near the water spigot, the bathrooms and just far enough from the visitor center. The bathrooms were clean and well maintained. We saw Roadrunners, rabbits, horned toads, birds, bats and chipmunks. No snakes. At night we heard coyotes sing. There were gorgeous sunsets and millions of stars at night. We hiked the High View Nature Trail, an easy to moderate hike depending on your knees. We saw different kinds of desert flowers and majestic Joshua Trees. The panoramic views at the top, especially of snow-capped Mt. Gorgonio, is awesome. The trail was in good shape but could use an upgrade for the markers pointing out the plants. The stone stairs were helpful and there were some beat up benches to rest on. The Visitor Center was good. It’s important to know that there are no portable showers allowed here. Also, it is forbidden to tie anything around a Joshua tree! The Rangers are very committed to this rule. Also, check the weather. We stayed for three days. The first two were calm and peaceful, the third day the wind picked up and was so gusty by late afternoon that we feared our tent and canopy might blow away. They didn’t and we were fine but if you don’t stake out and guideline your stuff you will be chasing it down.
