Black Rock Equestrian Campground in Joshua Tree National Park has 20 equestrian campsites set among towering Joshua Trees. It is located on the park’s northern perimeter over by Yucca Valley. It is strictly for campers planning to bring horses or mules.
The campground is adjacent to Black Rock Canyon (family) campground and has drinking water and flush toilets. A dump station is also available. Cell service is fair in the area.
Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (up to 60 feet). Each site also has a table, fire ring and grill. The parking area is dirt. Hitching posts and corrals area also available.
Outdoor recreation includes horseback riding, hiking, biking, rock climbing, bouldering, star-gazing and wildlife viewing. There are also many historic sites in Joshua Tree National Park.
Equestrians will enjoy the variety of trails around Black Rock for day rides, including some with spectacular views of the low desert and high peaks around Palm Springs.
