Blair Valley Primitive Campground Anza-Borrego Desert State Park California

Blair Valley Primitive Overview

Blair Valley Primitive Campground has several primitive campsites in a remote desert location of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. The free camping area encompasses several square miles. Roads are dirt and usually accessible by two-wheel drive vehicles. Be advised that you’ll encounter uneven/rutted terrain and stretches of washboard that might not be suitable for trailers.

Blair Valley Campground is open year round. Amenities include vault toilets. Potable (drinking) water or trash collection are not provided. Cell service is poor but you can get a signal depending on your campsite location. Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Large group sites are also available.

Tamarisk Grove is the nearest developed campground in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. You might also like Fish Creek Primitive Campground.

Blair Valley – Area Recreation & Activities

Hiking trails include the .4 mile round-trip Ehmuu-Morteros trail that will lead you to some Indian grinding holes. There’s also a 2-mile round-trip pictograph trail that can be extended to 3 miles by hiking to Smuggler’s Canyon overlook.

You can also hike the 2-mile round-trip trail (450 feet of elevation gain) to the top of Ghost Mountain to see ruins of an old homestead. Marshal and Tanya South built their home atop the remote desert mountain around 1930 and lived there with their 3 children until 1947.
