Boulder Gulch is a classic high-desert campground near Lake Isabella and has 78 campsites for tents, trailers and RVs. Even though in’s at about 2,700 feet it gets blazing hot here in the summer. There’s not a ton of shade here, but the lake is just a short 1/2 mile walk to cool off. Each campsite has a table, fire ring and grate. Boulder Bulch campground has drinking water, flush toilets, a dump station and a delightful playground for the youngsters. Nearby towns of Lake Isabella, Wofford Heights and Kernville have plenty of stores, shops and restaurants.
Lake Isabella and Sequoia National Forest offers more outdoor recreation activities than you could count on one hand. There’s hiking, world-class mountain biking, incredible river rafting and kayaking in the Lower and Upper Kern Rivers, and let’s not forget all those water sports at Lake Isabella like boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, water skiing, jet skiing, windsurfing and wildlife viewing. If you’re up for a drive – you can head up the Kern River about 40 miles and stroll through a nice grove of giant sequoia – the world’s largest tree BTW.
Other nearby campground options include Camp 9, Hungry Gulch, Tillie Creek, Paradise Cove, Live Oak South, Live Oak North and Pioneer Point.
