Chuchupate Campground has 29 single-family campsites and is located in a forested area near the Tejon Pass in the Frazier Park Recreation Area.
The campground is generally open early May to mid November. Amenities include vault toilets and trash collection. Firewood is available to purchase from the camp host. Cell service is poor in the area. Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (up to 24 feet). Each site has a parking spur, table, fire ring and grill. Trailers are not advised due to the narrow road, obstructions and difficult angles into the campsites.
Outdoor recreation in the area includes hiking, mountain biking, picnicking, OHV trail riding, stargazing and wildlife viewing. Hikers who want a bit of a challenge can make a day trip from Chuchupate Campground up the Frazier Mountain Trail with some panoramic views of Lockwood Valley and the high desert. The lower portion of the hike is almost entirely exposed and can be hot during the summer, but the upper half is pleasantly shaded. The Dark Sky element at Chuchupate also makes it a favorite for stargazing. This campground also offers access to miles of OHV recreation.
Other campgrounds in the area include McGill, Mt. Pinos and Camp Alto. Los Alamos (Pyramid Lake) Campground is also about 20 miles away.
