Convict Flat campground offers 5 primitive campsites and the opportunity to stay where convict laborers once lived while they helped build the roads in Kings Canyon National Park. The campground is located just off Highway 180 in Sequoia National Forest and just outside of Kings Canyon National Park.
The campground is rather peaceful, but some campers have claimed to have heard the sounds of clanking and hammering late at night in the nearby rock quarry. Perhaps the ghosts of a few convicts still linger here.
Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each site also has a table, fire ring and grate. Amenities include vault toilets.
Outdoor recreation in the area includes fishing, hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, horseback riding, picnicking and wildlife viewing. A restaurant, showers and laundry facilities are also available down at Cedar Grove Village.
Other campgrounds in the area include Hume Lake, Princess, Sentinel, Sheep Creek, Canyon View Group and Moraine.
