  1. Maria Mejia says:

A cool, lush, green, dripping forest with banana slugs! It doesn’t get much better than this. Unless you’re lucky enough to get spot #29. A romantic, almost Peter Pan like place to pitch your tent. You won’t hang out there much but the time you spend in it will be remembered. Prepare for rain and wet conditions. You will need a tarp under your tent and inside your tent to keep dry if it rains. Put everything away or it will be soaked. I was there on 5-17-14 and it was fantastic. Enjoy.

  2. Debra Greutman says:

We are hoping to tent camp in this area the week of July 4, arriving on Monday, 7/2/18, and I was wondering how many first come first serve walk in tent sites there are and if they fill in.

We are from Ohio and tagging a vacation onto a business trip, so driving from Crater Lake to the Redwoods on the 2nd.

    Thank you for any advise.

    Deb Greutman

    • Hi Debra, Mill Creek campground at Del Norte Redwoods State Park has a handful of hiker/biker (walk-in) campsites (no reservations), but all the others are reservable from mid May through September. The hiker/biker sites are generally not available for someone with a vehicle (no parking).

Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park campground has both walk-in (campers withs vehicles) and hiker/biker campsites (no vehicles). The park/campground is located about 17 miles north via US Highway 101, then Highway 199. You may have better luck getting a first-come first-serve (walk-in) campsite at Jedediah Smith Redwoods.

  3. Joseph Maronick says:

Will the ADA site be left open if not handicap individual reserves them? I would like to stay on June 19th and 20th but it appears that only ADA site are available. Looking for some advice. Thanks Joe

    • Hi Joseph,
Yes – the ADA campsite will be open and available if it is not reserved by a handicapped individual. It can not be reserved by a non-handicapped person. If it is open and not reserved, you’ll be able to camp at that site. With that said, it’s advisable that you still reserve the site.

    • how did that work out for you? I have some last minute time off work next month and taking a last minute trip and there’s no reservations in any of the redwoods parks

  4. Yoshikazu Ysa says:

I’m planning to reserve a spot for September. Any recommendations on which one is the best?

    Thanks!

  5. We are reserving a spot for the 4th of July this year. Will the campsite have enough room for a minivan and a 16×9 tent?

    Thanks!

    • Hi Johnny,
We didn’t measure the tent pad areas at Mill Creek campground, but the photos should give you a general idea. Most should fit the tent and all would fit you minivan.

  6. Kyle Hawkins says:

what sites can accommodate a 26ft trailer? Thanks

    • Hi Kyle,
      The larger Mill Creek campsites that can accommodate a 26+ foot trailer include: 17, 26, 32, 34, 35, 37, 47, 50, 51, 61, 62, 63, 65, 85, 98, 99, 102, 104, 105, 107, 108, 119, 121 and 141.

    • Hi Kyle,
      Mill Creek campsites that can accommodate at 26+ foot trailer include: 17, 26, 32, 34, 35, 37, 47, 50, 51, 61, 62, 63, 65, 85, 98, 99, 102, 104, 107, 108, 119, 121 and 141.

  7. Hi I was reading the earlier comments about the ADA campsites. Neither of us are handicapped but am I correct in assuming that means we cant reserve it ahead of time? And if that’s the case can we reserve another site and if the ADA one is available when we arrive can we switch to it?
Thanks for the reply, just trying to plan out a trip in June this year!

    • HI Cassie,

All vehicles parking in an ADA campsite need to have an ADA license plate and/or temporary handicap placard in their vehicle. So if neither of your are handicapped, or your vehicles do not have ADA plates, then you can not reserve or use an ADA campsite at Mill Creek campground.

  8. Gary Tesch says:

Wanting your opinion between sites 28 and 39. Friends staying at 35 and 35 thanks

    • Hi Gary,
The crew here would lean toward #39. It has more privacy, is about the same size (parking pad and table/tent area), and you can stroll on over to your friends site. Have a great trip!

  9. Brandon Ballard says:

Hello. We always love the walk-in sites at campgrounds and are leaning towards site 5, but it makes us a little nervous that it has a road on both sides. Would we be “walking in” just to end up right next to the other road?

    Leaning towards 7 if 5 isn’t a true, remote walk-in.

Any advice would be most welcome. Thank you!
    Brandon Ballard

  10. Do you happen to have info on how big tent sites are? How big of tent would they accommodate?

  11. I have reservations with Reserve California at Mill Creek starting on May 17th, 2019. One website I saw had the park opening on May 18th. How can I be sure when it will open and that my reservations will be honored?

  12. Heather Haggenmiller says:

My brother and I are planning to meet at this campground with our kids. He’s got a minivan and tent trailer and I’ve got a minivan. I see we are allowed 2 cars, would we have to get 2 sites since he’s got the tent trailer or will some sites fit the 3? Thanks!

    • Hi Heather,
We’re not sure if the camp host / ranger will allow a 3rd vehicle in one spot – probably not. I recommend you call the Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park Mill Creek campground to confirm if you’ll need to get another site: 707 465-7335

  13. Karen Bouchard says:

Hi! We are purchasing a 27’11” motor home. We typically tent camp and have our favorite sites for tents at Mill Creek. What are the best sites for our new motor home?

    • Hi Karen,
      The following Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park Mill Creek campsites will accommodated your motorhome: 10, 26, 28, 30, 31, 33, 34, 35, 37, 47, 50, 52, 56, 61, 63, 67, 68, 86, 97, 98, 102, 104, 105, 107, 114, 122, 137, 141, 140 and 144.
      I’d say sites 102, 103, 105, 107, 108 and 122 are the largest.

  14. Doug Starkey says:

Site #6 looks pretty close to the road. Can you hear the cars from the site?
    Thanks!

    • Hi Doug, Mill Creek campsite #6 is close to the campground entrance road, so you will hear some vehicle traffic as they come and go. Should be fine (quiet) at night though.

  15. Kevin Stack says:

    Hi,
I was wondering if you had to chose between 136 and 138, which is more private and “hobbit-like”?
    Thanks

    • Hi Kevin,
Great question! Both Mill Creek campsites 136 and 138 are nice, but site 136 is a bit more private and definitely has more hobbit activity (especially after midnight). Per sure to send us a picture of a hobbit if you happen to get one!

  16. Jennifer Montague says:

Hi – Is site #58 in a quieter area? Does site #58 have a fire ring or BBQ grill and a tent spot? The booking info was not clear. Thank you!

    • Hi Jennifer
Mill Creek campsite #58 at Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park has a table and fire ring with a grate. It does not have a BBQ pedsetal, so you’ll need to BBQ over the fire ring/grate. There is also an area to pitch a tent at this campsite. And yes, it’s a fairly quiet/private area, although your neighbor is a little close.

  17. Ethan Ye says:

    Hi,

For site 61, it’s advertised as a “hike in” campsite, but how far do I have to actually walk to get to the campsite? Does it involve climbing a set of stairs like some of the other hike in campsites?
    Thanks.

    • HI Ethan,
Not sure why ReserveCalifornia has Mill Creek campsite as being a ‘hike in’ site. You can park up to two vehicles in that sites parking pad and the tent/table area is just a few few from the parking pad.

  18. Louise N says:

hi! I’m hoping to come in mid to late September. Does the shaded areas get cold in sites 35, 37 or 46? Any preference of those in September? I like the privacy with plant coverage, but concerned if not enough sun to warm the area. Also, is there any internet coverage for my child to do online class in the morning? I can get a hotspot on my Verizon phone. I totally understand if its away from any phone or internet coverage which we will probably not come. We will be exploring and hiking in the afternoons. Thank you!

    • Hi Louise,
Early to mid September is usually really nice at Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park. The average high is around 65 and the low around 48 degrees. There’s about an inch of rain that falls in September and usually in the latter half of the month. Shaded areas will be a little cooler. There isn’t any cell or wifi service available at the park. YOu may have a slight chance of picking up a Verizon signal (one bar at best), but probably not.

  19. How much space doe campsites 18 and 19 have for tent camping? It appears campsite 19 is elevated and secluded. Does campsite offer the same? Thank you.

    • Hi Leo,
Those campgrounds cost $35.00 per night. You can check availability, pricing and make a reservation by clicking on the ‘Make A Reservation’ button.
Both campsites have good privacy (due to tree/plant growth around perimeter).

  20. Do you know why site 93 is marked as walk-in only? It looks like there’s a place for a car, but maybe the site itself is a further walk away? Is that a nice site?

Also, any recommendations between the following sites, none of which are on your favorites list?

    75, 86, 93, 112, 113, 124, 130, 144, 145

  21. Kristyn says:

My husband and I will be camping in our car. What are the best sites for flat parking since we won’t be setting up a tent? Thank you!

    • Hi Kristyn,

      There are a number of Mill Creek campsites with flat/level parking pads, but probably the better one are: 1, 2, 3, 8, 14, 17, 20, 26, 31, 32, 33, 36, 37, 39, 40, 46, 48, 51, 53, 55, 72, 73, 76, 78, 86, 123. With that said, if the park has had heavy rains recently – some of these and other pads may a little more uneven then when we photographed them.

  22. I just booked site 37 and wanted to confirm we will fit with a 25′ trailer and truck? thank you

    • Hi Amy,
Mill Creek campsite #37 has a pad length of 28 feet and a width of 13 feet. With that said, there’s an overhang beyond the rocks (back of pad) that will give you 4-5 more feet if your trailer clears the rocks (it should). Also, the front of the parking pad area is a little wider. You should be able to fit your 25′ trailer and truck (parking it a little sideways on the front of the pad. But . . .you may be able to fit all without disconnecting.

  23. Allison McGuffie says:

I am having trouble navigating the CA state park reservation site and would love advice from an experienced user. I am trying to search for sites that can accommodate our 19 foot trailer plus truck. When I search with just “trailer,” it shows that most sites fit the search criteria. But when I add “>10 feet” for trailer length, it eliminates all but 3 sites. Does this mean almost no sites accommodate trailers? Or is this just a glitch in the system? Also, would you recommend the North or South section for better ferns and big trees? Thank you!

    • HI Allison,
There does seem to be a glitch or two associated with the campsite sizing on ReserveCalifornia. There are several campsites that can accommodate trailers over 12 feet at Mill Creek campground, especially from campsite 32 on. I recommend studying the photos and then double checking the individual campsite specifications on ReserveCalifornia (although they may not be 100% accurate). And you’ll find big trees and ferns throughout the campground. Have fun!

  24. Hi there! We just reserved site #27 for July. It states that campfires are allowed; but then says that there is not a fire ring (although pics of other sites look like there are fire ring). What is the situation?
    Thank you!

    • HI Bridget,
We do know campfires are allowed at Mill Creek campground, unless there is an extreme fire hazard situation (very dry and/or windy). Unfortunately the photo doesn’t show the area around the table so I can’t be for sure if there is a fire ring/pit there. As you noted – ReserveCA says no, and that may be because they classify it as a ‘hike in’.

  25. If we had the pick of the entire campground for a late-summer stay, can you recommend a handful of the best sites for seclusion / ambiance? We don’t have a trailer or anything, just our little car and a tent!

    • Hi Ian,
      You’re going to love camping at Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park! Our favorite campsites are: 6, 14, 26, 32, 35, 37, 38, 46, 63, 66, 81, 109, 126, 136, 140. Any of these would be good to target!

  26. Mike Hallett says:

Two questions… What date in September 2021 does the park close for the season? And Is a pop-up, cab-over truck camper that stays on the truck allowed in a “tent only” site? Thank you in advance.

  27. I am looking to camp here but I was wondering what spaces would accommodate my 25′ jayco trailer and truck.

  28. Hi, is there a group campsite? we will be about 8 people, 6-8 tents. Or could you recommend a couple of side-by-side, secluded sites? Thank you!

    • Hi Brooke,
      There are not group campsites at Mill Creek campground. You can click on the ‘Campground Map’ button to get an idea of where the sites are located in the campground. Our favorite Mill Creek campsites are: 6, 14, 26, 32, 35, 37, 38, 46, 63, 66, 81, 109, 126, 136 and 140. Tent only (no trailers/RV) sites are: 3, 5, 6, 7, 13, 19, 20, 21, 22, 24, 25, 27, 29, 60, 83, 87, 88, 90, 92, 93, 94, 95, 138 and 138.

  29. Also, no fire pit but fires are allowed? Thanks-

    • Hi Brooke,
Most campsites have fire pits/fire rings. To our knowledge campfires are allowed in the campsites fire rings. I did just call the park to double check, but just got a recording: 707-464-6101

  30. We are wondering which site you would choose for most private and scenic out of 4, 7, 42, 53, 54, 55, 61, 85, 87, 93, 113, 114, 115, 118, 126.
We are in a pop up truck camper. Pick your top 3 choices. Thanks!

  31. Liz Costa says:

I was wondering which campsites have the most space. Do the walk-ins usually have more room? Any info would be greatly appreciated:)

    • Hi Liz, other than the campsite pictures the staff at CampsitePhotos doesn’t have any more info on what campsite may have more space. Maybe some else will have some ideas and leave a comment.

  32. Hi, we are booked for 6/14th in site 77. We are looking at buying a new trailer that is 25 ft long. Will that fit in that site? Thank you so much for any info you can share 🙏🏼

    • Hi Andrew,
Congrats on your pending purchase of a new trailer! Mill Creek campsite #77 has a pad length of 24 feet (and is 8 feet wide). There is a little more room/overhang off the back and a pinch of space in the front. Your trailer will probably fit, but not sure if your vehicle will fit in the spot with your trailer. You may be able to angle your vehicle (parking diagonally). You may try calling the park to get their input: 707 464-6101

  33. Laura Siegford says:

Hello! We’re planning on booking a campsite for this summer. We’ll have a 29 ft. RV and a small tent. Would this RV fit on any sites with a tent as well? I was looking at #97 and #102 in particular, but we’re flexible on sites and dates. Thank you!

    • Hi Laura,
You can double check site measurements at ReserveCalifornia.com Both sites can accommodate up to 2 vehicles and 8 people. And both have areas to fit a tent.
Site 97 pad size: 9 feet wide x 28 feet long, Site 102 is 14 feet wide by 28 feet long. There usually is some extra space in back (overhang).
      Hope this helps!

  34. Rhonda Vaughan says:

Will site #7 at Mill Creek Campground accommodate 2 tents?

  35. What are the regulations for the number of cars and tents allowed at a single campsite (we’re staying at site #93)? Thanks!

    • Hi Michael,
You can have up to 2 vehicles and 8 people at Mill Creek campsite #93. As for the # of tents, it depends on what size. You can probably fit two 2-3 person tents. Hope this helps.

  36. The mill creek website says it is all first come first served, no reservations. Has this changed?

  37. Hi. Trying to book for September. Which campsite can you recommend for tent camping near the creek with privacy but not too sunny, easy access to our truck. Thanks

    • Hi Yhett,

If you click on the ‘Campground Map’ button you’ll get a good idea of which campsites are closer to the creek; then comparing the photos will give you an idea of how much shade and privacy they’ll have. The Mill Creek campsites nearest the creek include 33, 39-52, 57, 59, 62, 63, 65, 66, 68, 72, 74, 75, 117, 118, 121, 123, 124, 126 and 128. Of those, our favorite campsites are 46, 63, 66 and 126. Hope this helps!

  38. Shubhut says:

Hi, we are staying at 50 and are wondering if it has a fire pit / grill or BBQ to cook at?

  39. Does site 92 have a fire ring?

  40. Johnathon says:

I’m staying in both #135 and #141 next month. Would 2 small cars and 3 2-person tents fit, you think?

    • Hi Johnathon,
Both sites can accommodate up to 2 vehicles and 8 people. Fitting three 2-person tents in each campsite may be a little tight. Two small tents per site will fit for sure.

      • Johnathon says:

Okay, thanks. And what is the charge for a 2nd vehicle?

      • The extra vehicle (per night) charge should be $8.

      • Johnathon says:

Thanks so much for the help! Last thing, but how much rain has there been lately, and what could we maybe expect from the 10-17?

      • Hi Johnathon,
We don’t have a CampsitePhotos.con employee located on site at Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park so we’re not sure how much rain the area has had. The forecast over the next 10 days is for partly cloudy skies (no rain) with temperatures ranging from 55 (low at night) to 65 during the day. I recommend you check a weather website like (wunderground.com) in about a week and check the 10-day forecast for Crescent City.

  41. Johnathon says:

I’ll be there on July 10th for a week, and I was wondering how much rain you’ve been getting, and how much to potentially expect?

  42. Hi, for campsites 118, 121, 123, 124 and 132, can 3 3person tent fit in each sites?

  43. Janet K Whisler says:

Is mill creek campsite closed due to fire? Camping on the 16th.

    • Hi Janet,
Yes – Del Norte Coast Redwoods state park campgrounds (including Mill Creek) are currently open. I just spoke with a ranger and she said they are not having any problems with fires in their location.

  44. Dan Becker says:

Hi Camp Ranger! I would like to to camp at Mill Creek 8/18/21- 8/24/21.
Do have any idea of the likelihood of being able to get a “walk-in” camping sight. Also are fire permissible in the fire rings at this time?
    Thanks!

    • Hi Dan,
Unfortunately all 145 campsites at Mill Creek Campground (Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park) are on the reservation system. With that said, there are a few that they hold for first-come, first-serve campers, but only for a nite or two. I also checked on your dates and there is some availability (to reserve), but not for your entire stay.
And fires are currently allowed at the park/campground – in campsite fire rings.

  45. Curious if Site 87 has a fire ring? Looks like a great spot.

    • Hi Peter,
Campsite #87 is nice, but unfortunately he does not have a fire ring. There are several that don’t at the campground. If you have one, you can use a portable/propane fire ring though.

  46. NorcalPete says:

We have had to change our camping plans last minute for September. We have reserved #100 for 8 nites in mid-September at Mill Creek. We have a small trailer 20.5′ from back of box to trailer coupler. The dimensions of site 100′ at ReserveCA listed are 17′ deep and 18′ feet wide. The picture at campsite photos looks like it will work for the trailer and SUV if we angle a bit. Does anybody know if we will be OK with our trailer and tow vehicle at this site 100? Would hate to get there and find that it does not work. Thanks for any thoughts

    • Hi Norcal Pete,
The site has some width to it so, as you pointed out, you may be able to angle your trailer and SUV to make it work. Usually there is a foot or two of wiggle room, but those boulders in the back may make it tight.

  47. Karl Koenig says:

Will the campground close on the 18th as you mentioned or the 30th of September as shown by the reservation calenar?

  48. Victoria Avina says:

We loved this campground so much we stayed there twice this month. It is beautiful and clean but, I was very surprised to see that the bathroom/shower is not illuminated inside or out at night. This is a serious safety hazard.

  49. Mark Moser says:

Hello, Making reservations for April 2022 and was wondering best sites for a pop up trailer and 2 dogs?

    • Hi Mark,
      Not sure if they are best for a popup trailer and 2 dogs, but our favorite Mill Creek campsites are: 6, 14, 26, 32, 35, 37, 38, 46, 63, 66, 81, 109, 126, 136, 140

  50. We’re planning to camp with two other families and debating what sites to get that are close together so kids can play and roam easily between the sites. These groupings are available: (56, 57, 58, 59, 60) or (31, 33, 34, 36) or (54, 54, 20, 21, 22, 23) Which 3 would you recommend? We’re all camping in tents.

  51. Rebecca Goulet says:

    Hello There!

I am planning a camping trip with friends for June or July. I noticed that some of the campsites do not have fire pits. Is there a list of sites that do have fire pits/rings? If so, I would love to know where to find it. Thank you.

  52. Hi there! We just booked site 138 and I was wondering if there was another photo somewhere of the site? Is it a large area or small and tight? Thanks.

    • Hi Emma,
Sorry – we don’t have another/better photo of the camping area for #138. However, it can accommodate up to 2 vehicles and 8 people. Our photographer also remembers it being a decent size area (for tents) – where you can fit a couple of small/medium sized tents . . and probably a small and large one (9×12). Hope this helps!

  53. Jessica says:

Curious on #46 campsite and why it’s listed as a favorite 🙂

    • Hi Jessica,
Our photographer will pick out the best/favorite campsites based on location (view, privacy, close to water, etc.), size and usually away from high-traffic areas. Campsite #46 is one of the best because it has a large camping / parking area, has a nice view of the forest and is fairly private – compared to other sites in the campground.

  54. Looking to book tent campsite. Have read good things about site(s) 3,60, and 90 which are available. There are also 2 hike in sites, 4 & 61. Which would you recommend for best privacy, scenery and space?

  55. Samantha Sheehan says:

I would like to stay in spot #6 but am wondering how far away the spot is from the parking? Are there stairs? And finally, is there a fire ring?

    Thank you!

  56. Yelena P says:

Hi! We’re looking to camp in July with another family. We’re looking at #95 and #98. I see that there are short steps to get to the table/tent area. We’re ok with that. Would those sites fit 2 8-10-person tents each? Can we walk from one site to the next (as in, are they closely joined together, or both separated with dense vegetation)?
    Thank you!

    • Hi Yelena,
I doubt you can fit two 8-10 person tents in either campsites, but campsite #95 has room for on large (8-10 person) tent and maybe room for a small tent. The tent camping area for #98 isn’t as large and would probably fit a 6-8 person tent. Not sure if there is a little trail between campsites. There is quite a bit of vegetation between the sites.

  57. Hi,

How are campsites 64 & 67? Are they secluded and big enough for two tents each? Your photos are super helpful but it is a bit hard to tell how big these are. Also, if we pick site 7, would we hear any road noise?

    • Hi Patty,
Campsites #64 and #67 do have room to fit two small to medium sized tents. They also have good privacy as there is a lot of vegetation around them and not any campsites behind. None of the campsites have any road noise from Highway 101 (including campsite #7).

  58. Hi, unfortunately 64 and 67 got booked.
Is there any difference between north and south loop?

Amongst the below, which ones are good in terms of shade, space, privacy and not immediately on the road?

    54, 86, 91,119, 137, 143

    • Hi Patty,
Too bad those two campsites were reserved. As for the others: 86, 91, 119 and 137 all have a larger camping (and parking) area. The camping areas have less privacy and can be seen from the camp road. Campsites 54 and 143 are smaller, but may offer more privacy. Sites 86 and 119 may be your best bet based on what you’re looking for.

  59. Taylor Testa says:

We just booked campsite #37. Just curious if it has a fire ring.

  60. Hi there, I am looking at sites for a group. I love the way 95 looks in a video on YouTube but wonder if it isn’t the best area for multiple families that hope to camp close by but not on top of each other and with some privacy. Can you recommend the best section for families with young children? Thank you!

  61. We are a family of five plus dog and have a large canvas boys scout style tent that is 12 x 16 feet. Last time we booked a site our tent would not fit and we literally had to leave after driving five hours. Is there a tent site big enough for that size tent?

    • Hi Mindy,
Sorry to hear about your last experience – and our tent not fitting in the campsite. Unfortunately we don’t have anyone on site and/or have any measurements of the tent pad area for the campsites. There not a lot of campsites that have an area to fit a 12 x 16 foot tent. Just going by the pictures, these may work: 8, 25, 28, 32, 38, 41, 42, 46, 58, 62, 82, 91, 95, 109, 121 and 126.

  62. Jennifer Crowell says:

We are staying for a week in July and have site # 6 reserved. The picture does not show much ground there is for tents. Would 2 medium and one small tent possibly work?

  63. I have reserved 2 campsites (52 and 57) and have decided I’ll need only one. Which site will provide the most room for a 10 person tent?

  64. Ansley H says:

    Hello,
I was able to snag a one night reservation in early July, maybe there was a cancellation? It is site 103 near the bathrooms. Is there any privacy at that site or is it visible from the bathroom area? Thanks!

  65. Hi! We would like to stay at this campground with a 30 ft motorhome. The park website just lists all the larger pad lengths as 24′ but my understanding is there are some that are larger than that. Do you know the spots with the largest pad lengths that may accommodate a 30′ motorhome?

    • Hi Kristen,

You’re right in that on ReserveCalifornia’s website the maximum pad length is 24 feet for the campsites. Parking spurs range in size from about 20 to 25 feet, but a few are up to 31 feet. Unfortunately I was unable to determine which of the few campsites have a longer pad length.

  66. Is there a fire ring/pit at site 46?

    • Yes there is! It is just to the right of the big rock in the picture of campsite #46.

      • Amazing, thank you! We just booked. Do you know if there is parking for additional vehicles on site that can’t fit at the campsite itself? We may have 3 vehicles in our party.

      • You’re welcome Anna!
There is a maximum of 2 vehicles and 8 people per campsite at Mill Creek Campground (Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park) but there is overflow parking available for a 3rd vehicle. Have fun!

  67. Ryan Rasmussen says:

Hello! We’re looking at campsites 76, 77, 116, and 139 for a trip in late July. We have a 12′ pop up camper with a slide out on one side. Would any of these sites work better or worse for that? Any other pros/cons for these sites? We’re especially leaning toward site 77. Thanks in advance!!

    • Hi Ryan,
All of the 4 campsites look to have some nice privacy and decent room around the table/fire pit area.
I’d be a little nervous about #139 – seems like it may be too narrow a parking area (with the foliage) for your (side) slide out to work. The pad is 11 feet wide x 24 feet long. Site #76 would probably work and has a pad width/length of 11 feet x 24 feet. It also has additional room on both sides to make your slider work. The table/fire ring area drops down from the parking pad. Site #77 is a bit narrower with the paved parking area listed as 8×24. However, there seems like there would be enough room to the side (toward table) if your slider goes that way. And site #116 would probably work (13×24 feet) . . . I don’t think the rocks / sign post would get in the way. FYI – these photos are new (from last year) so foilage should probably be about the same. They usually try and trim a few times a year. Hope this helps!

      • Ryan Rasmussen says:

Thanks so much! Even though 77 has a narrower pad there appears to be a decent amount of space between the pad and the picnic table posts/ barriers. Looks like that might work since the slide out would be opposite of the picnic side.
116 also looks really nice and think we’re deciding between the two, in case you had thoughts about 116 as well? Thanks so much for your help!

      • No problem Ryan! Not sure if I have much more to add about #116. It is a nice site but I’d probably lean more toward #77. Site #77 is a bit more private and closer to Mill Creek. You might even get a little bubbling water ambiance. Site #116 is at an intersection in the campground and somewhat close to restrooms . . . so it may not be as quiet. Have a great time at De Norte Coast Redwoods State Park!

  68. Hi,
We are trying to get info on sites that are near the creek and can accommodate a 24’ trailer and truck. Reservation site states most sites are 24×10-14. Only 2 sites are 24×28. One on creek #123, non creek #55 same measurements. We have a slide out that has our measurement at 24×13. I am seeing conflicting numbers that state 28’ long. Can you tell me what are some nice sites by creek we can fit both truck & trailer? Thank you!

    • Hi Debbie,
Of the campsites next (or very close) to the creek (32, 33, 35, 36, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 47, 48, 51, 52, 57, 59, 62, 63, 65, 66, 68, 72 74, 75, 111, 113, 114, 115, 117, 118, 121, 123, 124, 126 and 128), ReserveCalifornia lists the pad lengths as 24 feet with the exception of site 40 (21 feet). With that said, ReserveCalifornia doesn’t always get the exact measurements correct. For example, the pad length (left side) for site #35 is closer to 29 feet. Some sites may also have a little (overhang) room in the rear. Our favorite (creek side) campsites are 32, 35, 63, 66 and 126. All have large parking pads that should fit your 24′ trailer and truck, although #66 may not have enough room for your slideout. I’d double check to see the pad measurements with ReserveCalifornia.com.

  69. Brenden says:

What would you pick between campsite 75, 108, 132, and 139?

    • Hi Brenden,
Site #75 is on the small side (enough room for medium sized tent) but right next to the creek (nice ambiance). Privacy is okay, but you’re close to the entrance of this section so you may have some vehicle traffic. Site #108 is large, private and over near an open area (may have nice views of the meadow – can’t recall). Site 139 is okay – good privacy/size, and can’t remember much about 132. I’d lean more toward #75 or #108.

  70. Hi!

This will be our first time visiting – we’re pretty excited for the trip! We’re trying to decide among sites 16, 25, 29, and 117. Do you have any recommendations?

    Thank you so much!

    • Hi Jasmine,
Sounds like you have a great trip planned for Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park! Of those 4 campsites, #117 is one of our ‘favorite/best’ picks. It’s near the creek (when flowing), has good shade, great privacy and decent room for small/medium tents. Vehicle parking is also near camping area. Campsite #25 is nicely shaded, is private and decent room for a few small/medium sized tents. And campsite #16 also has some nice shade and room for small/medium tent(s) . . maybe less privacy than the other 3 sites, but parking is next to camping area. Campsite #29 has a walk up to the table/fire ring area and a small spot for 1 (smallish, maybe medium) tent. Hope this helps some – have a great time!

      • Many thanks for the detailed recommendations!! You’ve made our lives infinitely easier. Cheers!

  71. Hi!

We will be visiting for the first time in July and are incredibly excited! We’re trying to decide among sites 117, 16, 25, and 29. We’ll be tent camping and driving in with an SUV. Do you have any recommendations on which site might be preferred? Thank you so much!

  72. Does anyone know if we should be able to fit 2 8 person tents in site #24 for this campground?

    • Hi Alexis,
Pretty sure campsite #24 doesn’t have a very large tent area. Not sure of the dimensions of your two 8-person tents, but there probably is only room for one.
And, FYI – the maximum number of people allowed at that campsite is 8 (and 2 vehicles).

  73. Hello! Traveling with family who are very sensitive to mosquitos. Are there many mosquitos around the campsites? We had a rough time in Humboldt Redwoods. Coming to Mill Creek/Del Norte August 31. Please let me know if we should expect to encounter mosquitos during this time. Thank you kindly!

    • Hi Dan,
We don’t have anyone on site at Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park / Mill Creek, but you can expect mosquitos this time of year (through early September). Not sure how bad they are now though. Maybe someone can comment / provide an update.

  74. Hello there, this is our first time visiting the state park. We booked the campsite 104 on the Northern Loop. How does this camp site compare to others? And could we still exchange our booking?

We’d also like to know how would we access potable or drinkable water while on site. Thank you!

    • Hi Janice,
Campsite #104 has a large parking area, good shade and is level. As with the others, it also has a table, fire ring/grill and food storage locker. It’s also in more of a private/quieter area of the campground and you can have up to 8 people and 2 vehicles at the site. The restrooms (flush toilets and hot-water showers) are a short walk (maybe 70-80 feet) from your campsite. You can get potable (drinking) water there or at one of the faucets located in the campground. You can contact ReserveCalifornia.com to see about exchanging your campsite if another is available during the time you want to stay. I’m not sure if you can do it at the campground. Hope this helps some!

  75. Tom Lent says:

Campsite #88 is a very special one – not for everyone as it is a serious hike in. 270 feet with 30′ elevation gain (30+ steps and more upslope trail). But once you get your stuff up the schlep you are in a gorgeous spot up in the trees above the rest of the campground. Very peaceful. Unfortunately, the peace was broken in August 2024 by the sounds of the important restoration work being done in the Mill Creek watershed under Redwood Rising (https://www.nps.gov/redw/redwoodsrisingmain.htm). Check the NPS Del Norte website alerts for updates to see if the work is still udnerway https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=414
