Dorabelle Campground Sierra National Forest California
Dorabelle Overview
Dorabelle Campground is located just above Shaver Lake among a delightful grove of fir, cedar and pine trees in the western Sierra Nevada. The campground has 61 campsites for tents, trailers and RVs. Some have views of the lake and most have some good shade. There are 44 standard non-electric and 23 tent only sites. Each campsite also has a table, fire ring and grill.
Our favorite Dorabelle campsites are: 13, 23, 32, 33, 35, 41, 42, 46 and 50. Click on the ‘Make A Reservation’ button to check availability, site type and size, and to make a reservation. Most campsites can accommodate up to 8 people and 2 vehicles, but a few of the larger sites will allow for 10 people and 4 vehicles.
Dorabelle Campground has drinking water, vault toilets and trash collection. Firewood is also available for sale from the campground host. The campground does not have a dump station. The closest (public / $) boat ramp is about 4.5 miles away at Sierra Marina. Cell service is fair in the area.
Dorabelle – Area Recreation
This is a great basecamp to enjoy a variety of outdoor recreation activities including boating, canoeing, kayaking, water skiing, jet skiing, swimming, sailing, fishing, picnicking, mountain biking and hiking. Wildlife viewing is also nice in the area.

Dorabelle Comments & Reviews
Visited Dorabelle Campground lately? We'd love to hear about your adventure. Did you find us useful? Did we forget something? Anything our community should know before heading out to Dorabelle?
hi sorry not really a comment but looking for some info my family and i are coming up in july and we have site 12 can you tell around how big is the site and how far a walk to the waters edge we will be. thanks for any more info you may have
Hello Arnold,
Unfortunately we do not measure the campsites, but hopefully the photo of campsite 12 will give you some idea of its size. The campground and most campsites are a few hundred feet from the waters edge of Shaver Lake.
Is there a picture of the campground map with site numbers? The USFS online map seems off when slightly enlarged.
Hi Angela,
Unfortunately we are unable to located a map of Dorabelle campground. We will keep looking and will post to the campground page if we find one.
Just stayed at #41 and it was beautiful. There are 3 sites I really want to get as a group and I was wondering if I can reserve them all at once or each of us have to jump on the moment the sites are released? What time are sites released on the website?
If I may ask who or what did the name Dorabelle come from? Thanks
HI Gary,
I did some checking and wasn’t able to find out why they named the campground Dorabelle. Dora Bella is a girl’s name, but that’s about all I could find. Maybe someone has an answer and can comment here.
First of all, Thank you for this site! Its awesome to know what the good campsites are.
I just booked site 42 and I am wondering if it is a good site. I can’t really find any reviews about it
Hi Verun,
Thank you for your kind comments and you’re welcome!
Campsite #42 is a really nice site – one of our favorites. It’s fairly large, level, has nice shade and decent privacy. I think you will really like it!
Thanks for the confirmation I’m super excited now! Do you know how strict they are with having more than 6 people per a campsite? Can I get away with having 8?
Hi Verun,
Not sure how strict the camp host will be regarding haveing more than the allowed limit (6) per site. Sometimes they are lenient, especially if there are little ones. With that said, if you’re on the loud side you may get reported. Hope all works out!
Hi,
I just booked campsites 6,7,8. I was wondering if they are close to each other. I wanted a family campsite but they were all reserved. So, I booked these 3 for our 3 families, hopefully they are near by.
Hi Maria,
Good job at reserving Dorabelle campsites 6, 7 and 8 for your group. They sites are along a line with site #6 about 60-70 feet from site #7, and site #7 another 50 or so feet from site #8. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to find a campground map, but hope this helps some.
I usually book the sites through Recreation.gov. They have a map that shows the location of all of the sites and their proximity to the lake and to restrooms. They have some detail about the size of the sites, plus small pictures. Campsitephotos has better pictures, so I toggle between the two websites.
Hi Ann,
Great advice – checking sizes of campsites/map on Rec.gov. We also try to include a map when available.
Hi,
I have a reservation for site 40 and am trying to get some information about this campground, but there is no contact information available. The phone number 559-841-3533 is not a working number. I was wondering if there is a boat launch ramp nearby, can you can have a boat at your campsite, and is there an RV dump station close by?
Thanks
Hi Daniel,
Dorabelle Campground does not have a dump station. The closest (public / $) boat ramp is about 4.5 miles away at Sierra Marina. You can park your boat/trailer at the campsite – if all vehicles fit in the parking spur and you do not exceed the # of vehicles allowed in the campsite.
Great, thanks!
Whats the max. Number of people per campsite? Quiet time? When does the august campsite date get released?
Hi Benjamin,
Most Dorabelle campsites can accommodate up to 8 people and 2 vehicles, but a few of the larger sites will allow for 10 people and 4 vehicles. Quiet time is generally from 10pm to 7am.
Also, reservations open up 6 months prior to the day of arrival. For example, on February 1 (7am PST) you can make a reservation for an August 1 arrival.
What are the larger campsites? What number? Im looking for late June/early July
We just booked site#32 at Dorabelle. I read it was one of the favorites. Is it daily private on the one side? I see the neighboring site is fairly close . Thank you!
