Fairview campground has 48 campsites and is located is 13 miles north of Kernville along the Upper Kern River. The campground has drinking water and vault toilets. Each campsite also has a paved parking spur, table, fire ring and grate. Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. There’s also a restaurant next to the campground if you want to skip out on camp food one night.
Our favorite Fairview campsites are 9, 10, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 18.
McNally’s Restaurant is right next door to the campground and has some might fine steaks! The town of Kernville also has many shops, restaurants, bars, a grocery store, gas stations and a nice park along the banks of the Kern River. The campground is also about 40 miles south of a large stand of giant Sequoia Trees (“The Trail of the Giants”) – definitely worth a drive up to see.
Besides rafting and kayaking, other outdoor recreation in the area includes fishing, swimming, mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking, backpacking, horseback riding and wildlife viewing. Fishing is extremely popular and the golden trout is highly sought after for catch and release fishing by fly fishermen. Lake Isabella is also just 5 miles away and offers a variety of water sports activities.
The other 5 Upper Kern River campgrounds are: Headquarters, Limestone, Gold Ledge, Hospital Flat and Camp Three. Brush Creek and Calkins Flat also offer a (free) dispersed camping area.
