13 Comments on “Fallen Leaf”

  1. Kat DeStasio says:

Beautiful, large sites with plenty of tall pine trees. Clean and well maintained. Bring quarters for showers. No cell service with At&T. Saw 1 bear from a distance running quickly away from people in the meadow. Close to South Lake Tahoe but away from holiday crowds.

  2. Satish babu says:

Beautiful site. Short hike to the beautiful fallen leaf lake. Bears around the camps around noon, evening and nights. We saw at-least 3 of them in 3 directions surrounding our camp.

  3. few restrooms – tend to be dirty, frequent bears and most night you’ll wake between midnight and 3AM as someone starts banging pans and honking horns to scare a bear away. 1 mile walk to Fallen Leaf Lake and a nice rocky beach

  4. susan townsend says:

It’s impossible to secure a site at Fallen Leaf. I have tried for weeks at 7 AM to book 6 months in advance to no avail!

    • Hi Susan,
Sorry to hear you’ve not had any luck with reserving a Fallen Leaf campsite. It is a very popular campground throughout the summer. You may want to try our Campsite Assist service. It will send you a text and email alert if/when a campsite becomes available (through cancellation) at Fallen Leaf Campground. The alert includes a direct link to Rec.gov so you can try and reserve the campsite. You can select a specific arrival/departure date scan, or the Matrix scan which scans for availability over a 7-day period. If you get an alert just be sure to click on the link ASAP to try and reserve the campsite because others will also be monitoring for availability. We’ve had many people use Campsite Assist to help get Fallen Leaf reservations.

Does shower for an extra charge?

  6. Are pets allowed at Fallen Leaf Lake Campground?

  7. Hi! Wanted to know if anyone could recommend the most secluded campsite here. I have a baby and want to be mindful of my neighbors in case baby decides to cry instead of sleep lol.

    • Hi Charky,
Most of Fallen Leaf campsites are large with a decent amount of room between neighbors. I’d recommend the sites on the outskirts of the campground. Here are a few with even a little more privacy: 35, 52, 58, 72, 73, 74, 84, 85, 87 and 89.

  9. Is there parking near the lake? Would love to bring kayaks but don’t want to have to hike to the water with kids and kayaks.
