Fashoda Campground has 30 (walk-to / tent only) campsites and is located on a peninsula on the eastern side of Union Valley Reservoir in El Dorado National Forest. Campers can drive close to their tent site to unload and then park in the general parking lot. The walk from the parking area ranges from 40 to 400 feet.
This well-maintained campground is usually open late May to early September. Amenities include piped drinking water, vault toilets, showers (nearby) and trash collection. Firewood is also available to purchase from the camp host. Overflow parking is also available. Each campsite has a table, fire ring, bear box and BBQ pedestal. Cell service is good. The closest dump stations are at Yellowjacket or Sunset campgrounds.
Outdoor recreation in the area includes boating, water sports, swimming, fishing, hiking, hunting, mountain biking, picnicking and wildlife viewing. The area is also part of the Eldorado National Forest, which is home to the famed gold mining territory of the 1800s. Remnants of the California Gold Rush days can be found throughout the region.
Other campgrounds in the area include Yellowjacket, Sunset-Union Valley, Wench Creek and Wolf Creek.
