Fish Creek Primitive Campground is located in a remote area of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and offers about 6 primitive campsites for tent camping. The campground is located above Fish Creek Wash and has vault toilets. Potable (drinking) water is not available. A few sites have fire rings. The ‘road’ to the campground goes through the wash and is okay for 2-wheel drive vehicles but there are some areas of soft sand. Four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended.
The are is very popular with OHV enthusiasts and offers miles of 4×4 roads through narrow canyons and open desert. Fish Creek Primitive Campground is also about 3 miles from the Wind Caves trailhead (a popular 1 mile RT hike), and 11 miles to the spectacular Sandstone Canyon. Sandstone Canyon is the only slot canyon you can drive through with high-clearance 4×4 vehicles. You can also ride through it in fat-tire mountain bikes. Wildflower viewing can be good in the spring and stargazing is also great in the area.
Dispersed camping is available at Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area and other locations. The nearest developed campground within the park is Tamarisk Grove.
