French camp is awesome and the camp host Kevin is un matched in how he treats his guests

  2. Patty True says:

Thinking of coming up in a few weeks. Can you tent camp on site #73?

  3. Is there a camp host on site?

  4. Stephanie says:

    Hello,
By what campsites is/are the restrooms closest to?
    Thank you!

    • Hi Stephanie,
We do know there are 5 restrooms with flush toilets at French Camp campground, and that they are located throughout the campground (one per loop area, with the except of the tent only camping loop). Unfortunately we’ve been unable to locate a campground map so we don’t have the info as to what sites are closest to each restroom.

I was camping with my 26 Ft toy hauler about 4 years ago and haven’t been back since. The camp sites are very hard to get in due to the many ROCKS which are placed in a way which can create a lot of damage to once equipment. I sustained damage to my trailer and to my truck which prompted me to look for alternative camp sites. We did however enjoy the time we spent at French Camp and the many rec possibility’s. We usually camp 10 to 14 days at a time in the Mammoth area twice a year.

  6. Thanks for the recommended tent sites. Do you know which are on the river???
    THANKS 🙂

French Camp is hidden gem. Due to fires, we had to cancel our Big Basin trip and rerouted to the Eastern Sierras for the week. Camp Hosts were awesome and very attentive to the campgrounds and made rounds regularly. We reserved 027 and were extremely happy with our time in camp. Enough space for 3 or more tents but is not level so beware of tent placement – perfect for RVs. Tons of birds and chipmunks/squirrels to keep you busy. Creek is next to the outbound road and sounds wonderful when resting and sleeping. Stars were out and bright. Will be coming back next year for certain.

  8. Is there a map showing where the restrooms are at French camp?

    • HI Derek,
Unfortunately we’ve been unable to locate a French Camp Campground map. I do know there are 5 restrooms spaced out throughout the campground. One is by campsites 1, 85 and 86, another is by sites 14, 15 and 81, another one closer to site 75, another by site 37, and a 5th toward the entrance.

  9. Is the a place on site that I can get water for my trailer. I will be camping at French camp in June.

    • Hi Paula,
French Camp has a dump station and water spigots throughout the campground. There’s also a potable water spigot over by the dump station. You should be able to fill up there, but I’m not positive about the policy.

  10. What cell providers have the best service up there?

    • Hi Steve,
Verizon has the best coverage/reception in the area, but AT&T isn’t bad. With that said – reception will be spotty up at French Camp. You may get 1-2 bars.

  11. Is there a campsite map? I would like to see restroom locations. Thank you.

  12. Is there overflow parking for our 3rd vehicle?

    Thank you!

Is it possible to put up a tent on site 35?

  14. Cynthia Hayworth says:

Can a trailer be pulled thru sites 71 and. 81 We booked these two for our family and would like to know if they are close too

  15. Joe Blackwood says:

Question: I’ve stayed at French Camp multiple times. I’m bringing my family for the first time and we’re staying at site 23. Is the tent pad large enough to accommodate my 14×9 tent?

    • Hi Joe,
It looks like there is space for a 14×9 foot tent, but it’ll be tight because the larger tent pad area has boulders, the fire pit and table in the vicinity. Sorry I could be more absolute. Hope it all works out and you have a great time.

      • Joe Blackwood says:

Thank you for the heads up! I’ll pack something smaller just in case.

  16. Q… do the sites have space for 2 small tents (4 people total, 2 cars)? Especially looking at sites #44, 53, 55, 59, and 64. Recommendation between those sites for tent camping?

    • Hi KCWhit,
All of the campsites you’re interested in can fit two cars/4 people. Campsites #44 and #59 can definitely fit two tents. Site #55 – probably, and site #64 maybe. I don’t think site #53 is good for tent camping (too many rocks / small tent camping area.). Hope this helps!

      • Thanks so much for the info! In addition to space for two small tents, are any of sites 44, 55, 59, or 64 larger with more space between neighboring sites?
Would sites 80 or 83 be good options for 2 tents and space? Do you recommend any in particular for the tent camping experience? 🙂

      • You are welcome!
Campsite #80 may have some room between the rocks for a couple of tents, but #83 may be a little tight. Most of the campsites also have a nice buffer space between neighbors. The space and trees provide good privacy. Unfortunately CampsitePhotos.com does not have an employee on site, so I can’t confirm your specific sites.

  17. Just wondering if site 29 is totally flat and would accommodate a larger RV, like 34 ft? Site says 30ft max but says driveway length is 40ft.

    • HI Dean,
French Camp campsite #29 parking spur is about 40 feet so there should be no problem fitting your 34 foot RV. The site is relatively flat, there may be a few rough/sloped areas. We took the photos in late 2021 (before the big snows this year). Not sure if the snow caused any other issues with the parking surface.

  18. Jamie De Los Reyes says:

Hello. Would you happen to know the inner dimensions of the bear box? Would it fit both a 33”x20” and 22”x20” ice chest?

    • Hi Jamie,
A typical bear box / food storage locker at French Camp is er (48″ wide x 30″ high x 36″ deep). You’ll be able to fit both ice chests in the locker.

  19. Stephanie says:

Hello, we will be camping in site 58. The website just states a trailer can fit. But the driveway is 20 feet? Do you think my 25ft trailer can fit? Thank you

    • Hi Stephanie,
I think campsite #58 may be a challenge to fit your 25 foot trailer and towing vehicle. The parking spur is close to 20 feet, maybe a little longer, from the road to the back. Then you’ll need to park your towing vehicle there too. And the parking spur has some rocks and bushes to content with. I’d say you probably wouldn’t be able to fit your trailer in that site.

  20. Marissa Victoria says:

Hi! I see that a previous comment says that there is no overflow parking at French Camp- is there a place near by that a 3rd vehicle can park? A camp site that hosts 6 people- 2 cars is a little challenging for the 6 people allotment- so, where might a 3rd vehicle be able to park near by?

    • Hi Marissa,

You are correct in that there is not any overflow parking within French Camp. There are a few areas (dirt shoulders) off Rock Creek Road that would work but I’m not sure how safe those are.

  21. Stephanie says:

Hi there! Looking to book site #83. Anyway to find out if two 4-person tents can squeeze on this site?

    Thank you so much
