George J. Hatfield SRA Overview

George J. Hatfield SRA Campground has roughly 22 tent campsites (walk-to) and a group camping area. It is located next to the Merced River in the San Joaquin valley. All tent campsites are first-come, first-serve. The group campsites is reservable.

The SRA and campground is a little rough around the edges. The grounds could use some TLC. Several of the campsite fire pits are inoperable and some tables are also in disrepair. All campsites are for tent-only camping. All campers park in a general parking area and walk to their site.

Amenities include potable (drinking) water and flush toilets. Trash collection is also provided.

Area Recreation & Activities

Outdoor recreation in the area includes fishing, swimming, tubbing, kayaking, hiking, biking and picnicking. Wildlife viewing can also be decent.

Caswell Memorial State Park is another option and is located about 38 miles north off highway 99.
