Grandview Campground has 26 beautiful campsites nestled in a Pinyon-Juniper forest at 8,600 feet in the White Mountains. This is a remote (first-come, first-serve) campground and is just 5 miles south of the popular Schulman Grove of ancient bristlecone pines.
The campsites are all large and spread out throughout the campground around a beautiful meadow. Most offer great privacy. Each campsite also has a table, fire ring and grill. The campground does not have water or trash service. It does have 3 vault toilets.
The campground is open year-round. However, snow conditions may make access difficult in the winter as the White Mountain Road (access to the campground) is not maintained for winter travel.
Grandview – Area Recreation
The area is a popular location for stargazing, hiking, hunting, horseback riding, picnicking, ATVing, mountain biking and wildlife viewing. Also don’t forget to visit the ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest,
Tinnemaha Campground is 29 miles away and located down in the Owens Valley at 4,400 feet in elevation.

What a great place to contemplate the world. There is nothing to do here at all but take in the amazing vista. One one side there is Death Valley below. On the other is Mt. Whitney and the Sierra’s. For a real treat take a short drive to the Ancient Bristlecone forest. Bring your binoculars or telescope or just kick back and do some stargazing under a totally unobstructed view of the night sky. Bring a buddy as there is usually no one else there. Also a great birding spot.
Makes for a great basecamp when exploring the bristlecone pines or hiking 14,246′ White Mountain Peak. The views of the Sierra are incredible. Love how quiet this campground usually is. One of CA’s hidden gems.

Grandview is a great campsite. I like to take my telescopes there because the night skies are some of the best I’ve ever seen. Good hiking during the day and a short drive from the bristlecone pine forest. I used to do some work at Barcroft Station and Grandview is a great place to stay for a couple days before going up, to become acclimated to the higher elevation.
Have had the pleasure of camping here several times. One of my favourite campsites. Main loop surrounds a meadow. I love sitting on the edge of the meadow with my coffee in the morning. Very close to the Bristlecone pines and a great way to acclimate at 8000 feet if you are hiking White Mountain or the longer trail at Schulman Grove.
The reason I only give it 4 stars, is not because of the campsite itself but camping on a weekend is not a great experience. I would never do it again. The noise pollution from people all night long resulted in no sleep despite asking politely if they could be a little quieter. Also there were people with ATVs that were tearing around the campground road.
