Hayden Flat Campground is located near the Wild & Scenic Trinity River in Shasta-Trinity National Forest. Contrary to the Shasta-Trinity National Forest (and other) websites, there are only a total of 28 campsites. What’s more, there are two campsites with the same campsite numbers for 11, 12, 14, and 15.
Lower Hayden Flat (first-serve single-family sites) is open all year. Upper Hayden Flat (north side of Highway 299) has 3 reservable group campsites and is open early may to early October.
Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (up to 25 feet). Each campsite also has a table, fire ring and grill. Campground amenities include drinking water, vault toilets and trash collection. Cell service is not available in the area. You can also access the river via a trail.
Other campgrounds in the area include Junction City, Boise Creek, Gray Falls, Preacher Meadow, East Fork and Pigeon Point.
Outdoor recreation in the area includes fishing, hiking, rafting, kayaking, mountain biking, hunting, picnicking and wildlife viewing. Generally, Pigeon Point to Big Flat is too dangerous for tuber and family canoeists. Boating is not advised from Cedar Flat to Grays Falls except for expert boaters. This campground is also located near several trailheads that access the Trinity Alps Wilderness.
