Hirz Bay Campground has 48 campsites perched on a hilltop overlooking the McCloud Arm of Lake Shasta in Shasta-Trinity National Forest. campground has drinking water and flush toilets. Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (up to 30 feet). Each campsite has a paved parking spur, table, food storage locker, fire ring and grate. Firewood is also available for sale from the camp host.
Other campgrounds in the area include Moore Creek, Ellery Creek, Pine Point and McCloud Bridge.
Hirz Bay – Lake Shasta Area Recreation
Lake Shasta has 365 miles of shoreline and the Shasta-Trinity National Forest encompasses hundreds of mountain lakes and over 6,200 miles of streams and rivers. Outdoor recreation on the water includes boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, swimming and a variety of other sports. On the land visitors can also enjoy backpacking, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, picnicking and wildlife viewing. Lake Shasta Caverns is also located on theMcCloud Arm of the lake.

We camped at Hirz Bay last in Feb 2013. The camp sites are large and not right next to each other. Each site is paved and have nice concrete picnic tables, bear boxes, and fire rings. I’m looking forward to camping there again soon. Campesitephotos.com has done a great job taking photos of each site!
This was my 2nd time camping here, the last time was roughly 8 years ago.
Pros: Campsites are not on top of each other, there is a good distance. The lake was beautiful, spent most of our time floating and taking in the scenery.
Cons: No campsite host, there were people making a lot of noise just around midnight, other campsites were yelling at each other to quiet down after 10:00 PM. The bathroom was constantly out of toilet paper so make sure to bring your own. Our campsite was #8, there was barely enough room for 2 tents so I suggest reserving a double site. There were a lot of bugs (mosquitoes), but that’s common with camping. There wasn’t a bunch of space down by the lake for setting up a canopy and chairs, the lake level is pretty high as of July 2019, so make sure to set up your gear early in the morning. You are also a long way away from a store so make sure you bring more than enough food, water and firewood. There was no firewood available at the campground. The campsite was not clean when we got there, a lot of debris, bring a broom and rake if possible. Also there was a House Boat docked by the campground and they were pretty loud.
I think a lot of the issues we faced would not have happened if there was a campsite host.
