Lovers Leap Campground has 21 single-family campsites near the South Fork of the American River in Eldorado National Forest. South Lake Tahoe is also just 30 minutes away.
All of the campsites are walk-to (tent only) and first-come, first-serve. Each site also has a table, fire ring and grill.
The campground is generally open late May through October (weather permitting). Amenities include drinking water, vault toilets and trash collection. Firewood is also available to purchase from the camp host. Cell service is good in the area.
Lovers Leap is a steep granite cliff that can been seen from the campground. Legend has it that two Washoe lovers leapt to their deaths from the summit. It is also one of the most iconic climbing areas in El Dorado County.
Other campgrounds in the area include China Flat, Wrights Lake and Bridal Veil Group.
