Manchester State Park Campground has 41 campsites right next to the beach with views of the Pacific Ocean. Most campsites are out in the open (little shade) and fairly large with plenty of room between other campsites.
Individual camping is available first-come first-serve. For group camp reservations please contact Mendocino@Parks.ca.gov. The environmental camp sites have been permanently closed to camping.
Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers (up to 22 feet) and RVs (up to 30 feet). Each campsite has a table, fire ring and grate. The campground also has hike/bike, primitive and group camping.
Campground amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, trash collection and an RV dump station. There’s also friendly camp host who sells firewood. Cell service is fair in the area.
Manchester State Park has 760 acres of beach, dunes and flat grasslands. There’s plenty of beach combing opportunities here with about 5 miles of sandy beach that stretches southward towards the Point Arena Lighthouse. Both Brush Creek and Alder Creek have some excellent steelhead and salmon fishing. The park also has a variety of coastal wildflowers in the spring including sea pinks, poppies, lupines, baby blue eyes and blue irises. You also may spot, whales, seals, foxes, deer and even a tundra swan swanning about. Oh, and if you feel a little shaking that may be because the San Andreas Fault runs through the campground and out to the ocean. Other activities include volleyball, mountain biking, hiking, boating, kayaking, diving, fishing, bird watching and horseshoes.
Paul M. Dimmick Campground in Navarro River Redwoods State Park is another option in the area.

This is currently a first come, first serve campground. We had no problem finding a site on a Saturday morning in summer. Look for one of the spots with trees so you get some wind shelter. In summer 2023 the rate was $35/night and you need to self pay at the kiosk (bring cash). Bathrooms are vaulted pit toilets and they were always very clean and well stocked. Very quite campground with good spacing between sites. We plan to visit again.
