Mokelumne River Campground is located next to the river and has 13 first-come, first-serve campsites in the Eldorado National Forest.
The campground is usually open early June to mid October. Campsites are not numbered. There are 5 sites best for tents (spur length 25-40 feet), and 9 sites good for tents, trailers and RVs (spur length 40-50 feet). Amenities include vault toilets. Piped (drinking) water is not availability, but you can filter from the river.
Outdoor recreation in the area includes fishing, mountain biking, hiking, hunting, horseback riding, OHV trail riding, picnicking and wildlife viewing. There’s also a few nice swim holes in the area.
White Azalea (6 campsites) and Moore Creek (14 campsites) campgrounds are also nearby. South Shore Campground (next to Bear River Reservoir) is also nice.
