Morro Bay State Park Overview

Morro Bay State Park 015

Morro Bay State Park campground has 134 campsites for tents, trailers and RVs (up to 35 feet) with 30 campsites (sites 1-30) have water & electric hookups. Campsites can accommodate two vehicles (trailer counts as one) and 8 people. There are 2 group campsites, Chorro (25 people, 15 vehicles – including 2 RV maximum) and Osos (25 people, 10 vehicles – including 2 RV maximum). The campground has a campfire center, picnic area, restrooms with flush toilets and hot camping showers, outdoor showers (hot water – token operated), drinking water, overflow parking and an RV dump station. There are also water spigots available for RVs (dry camping) to fill up tanks. The Bayside Cafe is also located next to the campground.

Park roads are paved and set up in a one-way loop system. Overflow parking is available with plenty of room to accommodate vehicles of any size, including towed vehicles.

  1. Sheila Pederson says:

What is the fee for a 31 ft. travel trailer for 30 nights

    • CampsitePhotos.com is not associated with the campgrounds on our site. We provide the photos, some campground info and a link to make a reservation. You can stay up to 30 days, but you’ll need to check with ReserveCalifornia.com for availability and rates: (800) 444-PARK (7275).

  2. We are staying at Islay Creek Campground in a few days. Is it possible to use the Morro Bay state beach campground overflow parking for some of our vehicles?

    • Hi Diane,
CampsitePhotos is not associated with the campgrounds listed on our site. We provide the photos of each campsite, campground info and link to reservations. We’re not sure if campers at Morro Bay State Park can park a vehicle in the overflow parking area at Morro Bay State Beach. I recommend you call the Park directly at: (805) 772-7434

  3. Patricia Gentless says:

Is there a camp store at the campground? also I understand we can drive to park for a shower. How and where do we get the token? sorry our 1st time there

    Pat

  4. Hi Patricia,
There is not a camp store at the campground, and yes – there are a few parking spots over by the shower. You can purchase a token at the campground – either at the shower or at the ranger station.

  5. What is the pad length for the two RV spots in the group campsites. and can smaller campers like pop-ups be used in the other spaces

    • Hi Debbie,
We did not take any measurements on the pad length when we took the photos of the Morro Bay State Park campsites. I recommend you call the Park directly to see if they can answer your question(s): 805 772-2560

  6. Christine says:

can you put a pop trailer and park a pickup in a 24 ft pad at Morro Bay SP Site #78

    • HI Christine, Yes your popup trailer and pickup will fit in site 78 at Morro Bay State Park. You may need to park your popup all the way back and parallel park your pickup on the parking pad, but they will both fit.

  7. Erika Haas says:

We will be camping up there with our RV and wanted to know what the rules are if we were to put our car on a 18ft trailer if there was room for that along with our RV or what the regulations might be. The RV is 31ft

    • Hi Erika,
Morro Bay State Park campsites will accommodate up to 2 vehicles (trailer counts as one) and 8 people. You can not park a car, trailer and an RV in one site. Most sites can accommodate a car/trailer or motorhome up to 35 feet. Some sites are a tad smaller.

  8. Hi, My husband and myself, grandson have stayed here numerous times and we absolutely enjoy ourselves each and every time. Easy access to everything in the area. 5 👍👍👍👍👍 rating by us.❣🦋❣🦋❣

  9. Lorraine wilcox says:

For site 066 at Morro Bay sp can we fit a 20 ft camper van as wide as a regular van and a Subaru suv side by side as well as set up a tent?

  10. Carrielee says:

I was wondering how do you know which are electric hook up sites? Im having a hard time finding that information.

  11. Juanita Maclean says:

How do we make reservations and if were handicapped what do we need to qualify for a ADA handicap spot

    • Hi Juanita,
You can click on the ‘Make A Reservation’ button to check availability, pricing and make a reservation at Morro Bay State Park campground. For an ADA site – you must have a California license plate with the ADA designation, or have a valid temporary ADA/Handicap card to quality for one of the ADA sites. Hope this helps.

  12. Rosa Chavez says:

    Are seadoo’s allowed?

  13. Is there an RV water fill up station at the park?…would like to know if we need to fill up our RV with water at home or can we do it at the camp site. We are staying at a site with no water or electric. Thank you…

  14. We will be camping up there in a group campsite. Can we park our 35ft RV in the group campsite?

    • Hi Frank,
Your 35ft RV will fit in either of the two group camping areas at Morro Bay State Park. There are 2 group campsites, Chorro (35 people, 15 vehicles – including 2 RV maximum) and Osos (25 people, 10 vehicles – including 2 RV maximum).

  15. John H. says:

Is the RV section of the campground reasonably well lit at night?

  16. I’m coming from Visalia, should I follow my phones instructions or is there a easier way of getting there? I went not so long ago to explore the sites but the highway I took right before I got there was curvy up and down etc. not ideal for hauling a travel trailer in my opinion. S anyone have a better route coming from my area

  17. paul cantu says:

are the campsites open now and if not when will they be opening ?

    • Hi Paul,
Morro Bay State Park remains closed to camping due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately they have not yet set a date to reopen. Once we hear about campgrounds reopening, we will post the news to our website.

  18. Hi! I was looking at photos of campsite 082 but couldn’t tell if it fits one car or two (compact SUVs). I’m wondering if you would have a better idea? Thanks!

    • Hi Kexin,
Morro Bay State Park campsite #82 allows for 2 vehicles and up to 8 people. They list the site pad length has 25 feet, but don’t offer a width. As long as all tires are on the paved surface – you should be able to fit two compact SUVs no problem.

  19. Michelle Serna-Garcia says:

We are assigned to space # 007 – We have a travel trailer. Are we allowed to also set up a tent in our area? Thank you!

    • Morro Bay State Park campsite #7 is an electric hookup site and really doesn’t have any room for a tent to the left or right of the parking pad. The final call comes from the camp host though.

  20. Emily Trask says:

Will this campground open in December? we are not sure whether to reschedule our holiday camping reservations that we had for Plaskett Creek.

    • Hi Emily,
Morro Bay State Park campground opened on September 20, 2020 and is currently open for camping (reservation only). So far California State Parks and/or the State of California (Governor Newsom) have not made any indication that they intend to close Morro Bay State Park or other state parks in light of the recent uptick in Covid infections. For now – I would say Morro Bay State Park will remain open through December, but I’d recommend checking the California State Parks page for updates: http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=593

  21. Ron Trigueiro says:

The Morro Bay State Park Campground is on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Do you happen to know if there’s a NRHP plaque anywhere in the campground?

    • Hi Ron,
That’s a good question. There are a few plaques in the campground area (at entrance), as well as a few more up by the Museum of Natural History. Maybe one of those mentions that it is on the NRHP.

  22. Jean O'Young says:

Is there electric and water hookup for RV at #087? Can we park one RV, Mini Van and setup 4-person tent on site #87? Thanks.

    • Hi Jean,
Morro Bay State Park campsite #87 allows for a maximum of 2 vehicles and 9 people. Trailers count as a vehicle. The pad length is 35 feet. There is no electric or water hookups at this site. And, you can pitch a 4-person tent at the site.

  23. Steven Bragg says:

Going to be staying in site #096. My travel trailer is 32′. The pad length is 35′. Is there enough room to park my truck next to the trailer? Is there any overflow parking?

    • Hi Steven,
Your trailer will fit fin one campsite #96, and you should be able to park your truck in the space (perhaps having to park a little diagonally). Also, overflow park is available at Morro Bay State Park with plenty of room to accommodate vehicles of any size, including towed vehicles.

  24. Paul Deppe says:

We are scheduled to stay in site 118 – this Thursday through Monday (5/13-17), from reading the above comments, it looks like we are able to have/fit our 1 car and 14′ trailer at this site – correct? Other than site 1-30 are there any site water spigots at the campsite? Lastly are there any other sites that may be open this weekend to swap spots?

    • Hi Paul,
Campsite #118 can have up to 2 vehicles and 8 people in that campsite. The pad length is 24 feet, with a few feet of overhand off the back, so you should easily fit your vehicle and trailer. Currently there are no other campsites available May 13 through May 17. And yes – there should be at least 2 water spigots in your area (as well as a bathroom with shower). Hope this helps!

  25. Danny Vaqueiro says:

Is Motorcycle Camping allowed on your site?

  26. Michelle says:

Can we fit a 20ft 12 person tent at site 070?

    • Hi Michelle,
Campsite #70 can accommodate up to 2 vehicles and 8 people. The campsite area (on dirt) is 29′ long, but you have a tree to deal with. Not sure how big your tent is though.

  27. I am in space 44 which has a 25 foot pad. If I have a 30 foot RV and back all the way up where the wheels are completely at the back of the pad, will I fit?

    • Hi Nathan,
There is room out the back for your RV to overhang (past the curbs) so you should fit, but the final call would come from the camp host / ranger. Might be a good idea to measure the distance from the back of our rear wheels to the back of your RV.

  28. How close is the nearest bathroom to the OSOS group camp site?

  29. Would I be able to fit two large tents on spot #93? (8-person tents.)
Also – if we have a third car, is there any place nearby where it could park during the day or overnight?

    • Hi Maya,
It depends on the size of the tents, but it appears to large tents can fit in campsite #93. The campsite can accommodate up to 2 vehicles and 8 people.
Overflow parking is available with plenty of room to accommodate vehicles of any size, including towed vehicles.

  30. Are campfires allowed right now?

  31. We have booked site #75 can the rv 32 ft class c fit and no tow vehicle?
    Thank you in advance.

    • Hi Matt,
The pad length for campsite #75 is 25 feet. You do have some overhang out the back (beyond the curbs), but I don’t think it’s an extra 7 feet. I doubt your rig will fit in that site.

  32. The pads at each of the group campsites are a different length. Larger campers should use the spaces marked with an “L” while smaller RVs can fit in this area, but not all pop-ups will be able to due their height restrictions (pop ups less than 35″).

  33. We are in spot #46. Is there a picnic table at the site? Is there a fire ring and are campfires allowed right now?

  34. We will be camping up there at a group campsite. Can we park our camper there?

  35. Zenia b. says:

Hi, I currently have 2 spots booked for next week Thanksgiving I have a family member wanting to take the other spot do I need to transfer the other one in her name or just print confirmation in my name and give to her?

    • Hi Zenia,
Yes – just print an extra confirmation and give it to her. When she checks in – she can show it to the ranger/host and let them know she’s with you.

  36. Haylie Legarretta says:

I reserved campsite 037 and I was wondering if there is only one bathroom in the lower campground area and how many showers are there in it. Also, are fires allowed right now?

    • Hi Haylie,
Your campsite is very near to a restroom with a shower. There are a total of 4 restrooms with showers in the lower campground area at Morro Bay State Park. You can click on the ‘Campground Map’ button to see their locations. I’m not sure how many shower stalls are in each restroom though. Perhaps someone else can comment on that.

  37. Emily Howard says:

Hello! I am looking for a group of sites that may work to get with a few other families (but not the group sites). Would either of these groupings work best as far as spaces next to each other and space around for kids to play? Thanks for your input!

    86, 88, 116

    106, 80, 78, [76]

    • Hi Emily,
You picked out some nice campsites! Campsites 86-88-116 definitely have a larger camping area/parking and offer more seclusion/privacy since they are on the outskirts of the campground. The (slight) hitch with those is that they are somewhat close to the RV sanitation/dump station and showers/bathrooms. I don’t think the showers/bathrooms would be much of an issue, but you may catch a smell or two from the dump station if the wind happens to blow offshore (which is seldom).

Campsites 76-78-80-106 are nice but in closer proximity to other campsites and the camping/parking areas are smaller (than 86-88-116).

I’d probably lean more toward 86-88-116.

      Hope this helps some!

  38. Can you have just tents on a Hook Up Campsites (1-30)? I do not have a trailer/RV but I want the sites with electricity.

  39. I reserved campsite 037 and I was wondering if there is only one bathroom in the lower campground area and how many showers are there in it. Also, are fires allowed right now?

    • Hi Jugal,
There is a bathroom/shower right next to campsite #37 and there are 4 other bathroom/showers scattered about the campground. Not sure how many shower stalls are available (we do not have an employee on site that can check). Fires are allowed, but you can also call the Morro Bay State Park to confirm at: 805 772-7434. Have a great time!

  40. Hi, we have reservations for a hookup site. We know there is electricity and water, but no sewer. Question about gray water (sink water…not poop water). In the picture behind the water spigot looks like there is a drain. Can you dump your gray water in the drain?
