Morro Strand State Beach Campground is right on the beach of Morro Bay and has 85 campsites for tents, trailers and RVs. Odd numbered campsites (1-45) and sites A, B, C and D are beach front! Campsites 1-46 and 74-81 have a maximum trailer or RV size of 24 feet, sites 47 to 71 are full hookup (40 feet or less). Each campsite has a table, fire ring and grill/grate for cooking or barbecuing your favorite food. Water spigots are also available at every campsite to fill up your fresh water tanks. Generators can be used from 8am to 10pm only.
The campground has a drinking water, flush toilets, and also a nice picnic / day use area. There are no showers here, but you can drive over to Morro Bay State Park and get a hot shower. Just bring proof that you’re a registered camper at Morro Strand. Firewood is also available for purchase at the campground.
Morro Strand State Beach is a three-mile coastal frontage park. From the beach, visitors can view the entire Estero Bay, including iconic Morro Rock. Activities include fishing, surfing, wind and kite surfing, kite flying, sunbathing, strolling on the beach, bird watching and picnicking. The town of Morro Bay is also nearby with shops, restaurants and marina.
Montana Do Oro State Park (Islay Creek Campground) and Morro Bay State Park are also in the area.

I stayed there a couple of times with my daughter and her family…loved it! Now the grandkids wanna tent camp so Nana and Papa are it!! What are your prices…? Well probably be coming mid summer! Thanks for your time…
Hi Patti,
You’ll need to check with ReserveCalifornia to check on pricing, availability and reservations for Morro Strand State Beach.
can you park there overnight?
Hi Sheila,
You can park overnight at Morro Strand State Beach only if you have a reserved campsite.
We are a family of 6 . Are we allowed two tents in a campsite?
Hi Rosa,
You can have two tents (as long as they fit within your campsite area) at Morro Strand State Beach!
Do the fire pits at the camp sites have grills on them to use for cooking?
HI Cindy,
Yes, the fire rings at Morro Strand State Beach have grills/grates for cooking.
Thanks!
Can dogs go on the beach there?
Hi Trisha,
Pets/dogs are allowed in the campground and on park roads, but must be on a 6-foot leash (or less) at all times. They are not allowed on Morro Strand State Beach trails or the beach.
However, they are allowed (on leash) on the beach (to the south of Morro Rock), and on the north side of the pier. These areas are not in Morro Strand State Beach. Pets/dogs are also not allowed in the dunes in order to protect nesting shorebirds.
Are the showers indoor or outdoor and hot or just cold water?
Hi Kate,
There are no showers at Morro Strand State Beach campground, but you can drive over to Morro Bay State Park and get get a hot shower (token operated). Just bring proof that you’re a registered camper at Morro Strand.
I have a 37’ fifth wheel trailer, I see you have some sites that are 40’ . My truck is 22-23’. Is there room to park my truck there also?
Hi Mike,
CampsitePhotos.com is not associated with the campgrounds listed on our site. We provide the photos of each campsite, campground info and link to make reservations. Generally campsites that can accommodate a certain length on the trailer or RV will have room for a vehicle. I’d check out the photo of the campsite your reserve at Morro Strand State Beach: https://www.campsitephotos.com/campground/ca/morro-strand-state-beach/
Do you have to make a reservation Beforehand?
Hi Alexis,
Morro Strand State Beach is popular in the summer and weekends, so it’s recommend you make a reservation if you’re planning to arrive during those times. If sites are available, you can show up and get one of those.
Visit the Morro Strand State Beach campground page and click on the ‘Make A Reservation’ button to check availability and make a reservation.
What are sites A, B, C and D? I don’t see any pictures of those sites on your website. It looks like a lot of the tent sites are not very large to fit a tent for a family. Some have very little usable room and are taken up with trees or shrubs. Hoping that these sites have more room so I am interested to hear more
Hi Mike,
Some of the tent sites are a bit small, but all have room for a vehicle and to pitch at least one tent. Unfortunately we don’t have photos of campsites A-D. Those can fit campers/trailers from 30 to 40 feet. You can view the locations of all sites on the Morro Strand State Beach Campground Map.
If I stay in site 67 in April, is there some construction or something going on around those sites? On Reserve California it shows multiple sites are not listed. On Google Maps, it looks like it is all concrete from April 2016. Have they been remodeled since the picture here on Campsite photos??? Thanks.
Hi Robert,
Morro Strand State Beach did recently upgrade the campground and change the campsite photos. There are new RV (hookup sites). We will be reshooting the campground in the next few weeks and hope to have the latest campsite photos up soon. Not sure why ReserveCalifornia does not list all sites as reservable, but sometimes campgrounds do hold some for walk-in campers.
FYI – site 67 is completed and available (not sure if reservable), but it is a handicap/ADA site.
I want to rent a trailer. Is there a pacific rental agency that you require we use? Thank you.
Hi Margie,
Yes, the approved trailer rental vendor for Morro Strand State Beach is ‘Luv 2 Camp’. You can click HERE to go to its website, or give them a call at 888-898-2267.
Hello! I am wondering when the photos of the sites were taken. I’m thinking 27/29 in particular (if that matters). I just see trees in some photos, and dead trees in others, and I’m curious if they planted new ones. I know it’s a little silly. Thank you so much!
Hi Katie,
We updated the Morro Strand State Beach campsite photos earlier this year (in February, 2019).
Hello, If you had to recommend a site between site C, and site 27 can you give any advice? We have a 25′ trailer, and we are looking for a site with the views of the ocean. In the photos site #27 appears to have unobstructed ocean view, and a trail leading to beach. It is hard to tell from the photos about site C, and it’s . very difficult to find additional site recommendation online (with actual site # recommendations). Thank you for any advice!!
Hi Sara,
You’ll have views of the ocean from both campsite 27 and campsite ‘C’ and Morro Strand State Beach. Campsite ‘C’ has a little bit more room and privacy (from other campsites), but it’s also located next to a restroom and trash receptacle. Hope this helps!
Can you give any tips on walk up reservations? Looking to find an available cancellation. What time would we need to show up
Hi Jennifer,
Morro Strand State Beach will release reserved campsites that have not been occupied the night before (no shows) or for campsites where people left early (day before) at 8AM. These are for the ‘walk up’ reservations. People can start lining up anytime prior to 8AM and it’s first-come, first-serve. Generally people start lining up by 7AM. It’s always hard to guess, but there are usually at least 3-4 campsites that become available (for 1-2 nights, sometimes longer). Hope this helps!
Hi, some of the photos make it look like the picnic table and fire ring are shared between the two sites on either side of the grass. Is that the case?
Hi Brittney,
Good question. Each site at Morro Strand State Beach should have its own campsite table. Sometimes people may move them around (closer to other sites), but each is suppose to have their own.
Does site A allow for a 25 foot rv? The system allowed me to reserve and I listed a 25 foot rv but I’m just verifying. Also thoughts on site A? It’s all that’s as available to accommodate a 25 foot rv. I know it has no hooks up
Hi Jennifer,
Morro Strand State Beach campsite has a pad length of 40 feet, so your 25 foot RV will fit fine. It’s a self-contained site (no hookups as you noted), and it’s on the end so you won’t have a neighbor on one side. Also and easy walk to the beach! Have fun.
Hi there,
We have site 003 booked in August for our teardrop trailer. We want to invite friends to tent camp with us but it doesn’t look like there is a spot for their tent anywhere??
Hello, our tent base Size: 10′ x 15. Would this fit in site 24? Thanks
Hi Ryan,
Yes, your 10′ x 15′ tent will fit in the dirt area of campsite #24. You may need to move the picnic table though.
Hi. I have reserved site 32. It says RV/ trailer length 24 ft but site is 30 feet. My RV is 28.8 bumper to bumper. Will I fit? Do they measure upon arrival?
Hi Cindy,
The parking pad area is 24 feet, and the entire site length is listed as 30 feet. The site length includes the dirt/table area. With that said – it appears the dirt/table area is more like 10 feet. Anyway, with the parking pad being 24 feet, I’m not sure if they will let your 30 foot trailer in that site. They sometimes allow for it to be a little longer (overhang off the back), but your trailer may be too long. You can try calling the park/campground to confirm: 805 772-8812.
If we reserve a parking space with you for a motorhome, is it possible to arrive at 7:00 p.m.? Can we check out before 8:00 a.m. in the morning?
HI Christine,
Yes, you can arrive/check in after 7pm. You have until early the following morning (around 7am I believe), before they release your campsite. And you can check out before 8:00AM.
Hi, we just booked camp site 19 at morro strand state beach, this will be our first time camping there our trailer is 28ft will it fit in the spot? And where do we park our vehicle? I was looking at the website but it doesn’t show where we would park our vehicle?
Hi Zenia,
Morro Strand State Beach campsite has a parking pad length of 24 feet (per ReserveCalifornia). Since it is on the end (some room to right), you may have a few more overhang feet you can play with. I doubt thought you 28′ trailer will fit. There is no overflow parking in the campground, but sometimes park their cars up on the neighborhood streets.
Hi, we are in campsite56 with full hook up are we able to have a camp fire? And also i have family camping in a smaller spot is there anywhere for them to fill up their tank with water?
Hi Zenia,
The full hookup campsites at Morro Strand State Beach do not have a fire pit, so wood-burning campfires are not permitted. You can use a portable/propane fire pit if you have one. Water spigots are also available at every campsite (including non hookup) to fill up your fresh water tanks.
Hi I just booked site 009. Will this site fit a 10’ x 12’ tent and a 10’ x 10’ canopy all in the same site?
Hi Manny,
Campsite #9 can have up to 2 vehicles and 8 people. The parking pad length is 24 feet. I’m not exactly sure if a 10×12 foot tent will fit to the left of the fire pit. It looks to be about 10 feet from the pit to the other campsite, but probably not 12 feet from the curb to the bushes. A 10×10 foot canopy may work to the right of the fire pit (but you’d need to center the table under it).
Hi, We are staying in site C at the end of this month for 4-5 days. It’s to my knowledge that this is a non-hookup site. What are the generator hours allowed and do you have a dump station or does a company come around and offer pumping/dumping services?
Hi Allan,
Way to go on scoring campsite C at Morro Strand State Beach. That’s a really nice site! You are correct that it is a non-hookup site. Generators can be used at Morro Strand campground from 8am to 10pm only.
Hi
We are 2 families are planning to tent camp over the weekend on site 002. Is there enough room to pitch 2 x 4 person tents .
Thanks
Hi Rashida,
The camping area fore site 32 measures about 17 feet by 31 feet and includes the table and fire ring. I’d measure your tents to confirm, but they should fit.
I really need to know how long the campsites are along the beach: from the curb to the white line. And do they let you park the back end of your rig over the curb. My trailer is total 27′, but if I back in to the wheels touching the curb, it only extends 17′
Hello,
We are staying in site #56 in May for the Ironman Tri. Is there construction going on in sites 56 and 55? Thanks.
Hi Diane,
Unfortunately CampsitePhotos doesn’t have an employee on site. I did some quick checking and a few calls and was not able to find out anything regarding construction at the campground (sites 55/56). You could try calling the park (hopefully someone will answer): 805 772-8812.
