Palomar Mountain State Park Doane Valley – Area Recreation

Palomar Mountain State Park features spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, camping, stargazing, wildlife viewing, picnicking, hiking, biking and fishing (trout) in Doane Pond.  A beautiful Coniferous forest covers much of the 1,897 acres and the area feels much like something you’d find in the Sierra Nevada.  East of the park is the world-famous Palomar Observatory.

The Friends of Palomar Mountain State Park is great organization that has been instrumental in helping to obtain grants and additional funding to promote, protect and maintain the Park. Opportunities to volunteer and help maintain the park are also available.

Other campgrounds in the area include Fry Creek and Observatory. Both campgrounds can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Hellhole Canyon County Preserve (near Valley Center, CA) also has group camping.
