Peninsula Campground has 100 spacious campsites set in a wooded area among rolling hills on the east side of Folsom Lake. It is also in between where the South Fork of the American River and North Fork of the American River enters the lake.
The campground is popular, especially when lake levels are high and the boat ramp is operational. There are 34 tent-only sites and the rest are okay for tents, trailers and RVs. Trailers over 18 feet and motorhomes over 25 feet are not advised due to the narrow and windy road to the campground.
Amenities include drinking water, restrooms (flush toilets and showers), trash collection and a dump station. There’s also a boat ramp and boat trailer lot near the campground. Firewood is available to purchase from the camp host. Cell service is spotty in the area. A marina and boat rentals are also available at the lake.
Outdoor recreation in the area includes boating, kayaking, canoeing, paddle-boarding, fishing, water sports, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and picnicking. Wildlife viewing is also good in the area.
Other Folsom Lake SRA campgrounds include Beals Point, Black Miners Bar and Granite Bay (primitive boat-in sites).
