Pleasant Valley Pit Campground has 75 single-family campsites located in an old gravel quarry about 8 miles from Bishop, CA. All campsites are first-come, first-serve. Most are quite large with a lot of room between neighbors. About half of the campsite are up on a ridge and the other half down in the pit. All have great views of the Sierra mountains and spectacular starry nights.
Amenities at the BLM campground include vault toilets, a book share library and trash collection. Water is not available. Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each site also has a table, fire ring and grill. Some sites also have lantern posts. Firewood can also be purchased from the camp host.
The campground is a popular base to visit nearby Happy & Sad Boulders Climbing Area (off Chalk Bluff Road), as well as Buttermilks (west of Bishop). Other activities include hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing, picnicking and wildlife viewing.
Other campgrounds in the area include Pleasant Valley, Horton Creek and Brown’s Millpond.
