Providence Mountains SRA Overview

Providence Mountains SRA campground has 10 campsites located near Mitchell Caverns and within the Mojave National Preserve. Campsites are available late September through mid June and only on Friday and Saturday nights. Five of the campsites are for trailers/RVs and the other 5 for tent, trailers and RVs. Hookups are not available. A Honeymoon Hogan (cabin) and a Multi-Family Dorm Room are also available to rent.

Each campsite can have up to 2 vehicles and 8 people. Generators are okay to use between 8am and 8pm. Vault toilets are available at the campground but bring your own water. Trash services are also not provided (please pack in/out all waste).

The Honeymoon Hogan is a furnished, 1-bedroom cabin that can accommodate up to 2 people. Amenities include a private bathroom (flush toilet, sink and shower), AC/Heat, 2 cots, refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave and lighting. It does not include linen or bedding.

The Multi-Family Dorm Room is furnished and can have up to 2 vehicles and 8 people. Amenities include AC/Heat, bathroom (flush toilet, sink, shower), a dishwasher, clothes washer/dryer, living room, lighting, stove/oven, microwave, picnic table, refrigerator and 15 cots (2 bedrooms). It does not include linen or bedding.

Hole-In-The-Wall campground is also nearby.

Providence Mountains SRA – Outdoor Recreation & Activities

The area features jagged slopes of gray limestone, topped by volcanic peaks of red rhyolite. Located on the eastern slope of the Providence Mountains Range, the park lies within the boundaries of the 1.6-million acre Mojave National Preserve. From its vantage point at 4,300 feet above the valley floor, the park headquarters offers stunning views of the surrounding Mojave Desert.

Mitchell Caverns is the main attraction and features spectacular and intricate limestone formations include stalagmites, stalactites, helictites, lily pads, draperies, curtains, and popcorn. Tours are available but often sell out. Reservations are recommended at least 3 weeks in advance. Use California State Parks – Tours (reservecalifornia.com) and use “Providence Mountains SRA” in Category, and use only a day when the park is open for Choose Date option.

Other activities in the area include hiking, mountain biking and wildlife viewing. Stargazing is also great in the area.
