Located along the banks of the South Fork American River, Sand Flat campground is about 28 miles east of Placerville on the south side of Highway 50. The campground is first-come, first-serve and offers 29 campsites, including 6 walk-to / tent-only campsites (23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 29). The rest of the campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (4o to 80 feet). Each site also has a table, fire ring and grate.

Campground amenities include drinking water, vault toilets and horseshoes. There are no bear boxes, showers, hookups or dump station. Firewood is also available for sale from the camp host.
