Sandy Flat campground has 9 single-family campsites and is located on the shores of Utica Reservoir in the Stanislaus National Forest. Group camping is also available at the Granite Gulch Group camping area (up to 18 people, 6 tents and 6 cars). All campsites are first-come, first-serve.
The campground is usually open early June to late September. Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Campsites 4A and 4B are walk-to (tent only). Each site also has a table, fire ring and grill. Food storage lockers (bear boxes) are also available.
Amenities include vault toilets and trash collection. Water is not available. There’s also a small, primitive dirt boat launch at Union East campground, but you can also launch from shore at Sandy Flat campground. Cell service is not available. Firewood is available to purchase from the camp host.
Both Utica and Union Reservoirs offer boating (5 mph or less), canoeing, kayaking, fishing and swimming. Utica Reservoir does not allow motorized watercraft. Other popular activities in the area include hiking, mountain biking, hunting, picnicking and wildlife viewing.
Other campgrounds in the area include Spicer Reservoir, Stanislaus River, Rocky Point, Union East and Union West.
