Sarah Totten Campground is next to the Klamath River and has 9 single-family campsites (first-come, first-serve) and 2 (reservable) group sites (for up to 30 people). Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Most sites have 28 foot parking spurs and two are 45 feet. Each site also has a table, fire ring and grill.
Campground amenities include drinking water, vault toilets and trash collection. A raft/kayak launch ramp is also at the campground. Cell service is not available in the area.
The campground was named after the landowner, who also was the owner of the Hamburg store/hotel (closed in 1930). She donated the land to the Forest Service on the condition they use it as a recreation area. Crumpled structures and rock foundations are all that remain of the Johnston’s Store, Bailey Post Office, and Bucket Of Blood Saloon. In Hamburg’s prime, these establishments catered to wealthy fly fishermen and sportsmen, including Zane Grey.
Other campgrounds in the area include Curly Jack (17 miles) and Tree of Heaven (20 miles).
Outdoor recreation in the area includes fishing, whitewater rafting/kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, picnicking and wildlife viewing.
