Sawmill (Walk-in) Campground Inyo National Forest California

Saddlebag Lake Road

Sawmill (Walk-in) Campground is more of a backpack style camping area that requires a 1/4 mile walk to the 12 campsites.  The ‘walk’ is worth it as the views are amazing of surrounding meadows, trees and surrounding mountains. It is located on a hill above Lee Vining Creek and at the boundary of the Hoover Wilderness at an elevation of 9,800 feet.

Camping is first-come, first-serve (tent only). Overnight parking for 15 vehicles is available (no trailers or RVs).  The trail from the parking area to the camp host is about 700 feet. Each campsite has a table, tent pad, food storage locker, fire ring, grill.  Most sites also have shade and room for two tents. Trash must be packed out but a few small trash cans are by the two vault toilets. There is no piped water but you can filter from nearby Lee Vining Creek.  Cell service is not available in the area. A camp host is also on site during the season.
