Sawtooth Canyon Campground (aka “New Jack City”) has 14 free campsites in a beautiful high-desert canyon of the Mojave Desert about 20 miles south of Barstow. One group campsite is also available.  Camping is free at the well-maintained BLM campground and all campsites are first-come, first-serve. The camping limit is 14 days within a 28-day period.

Each site also has a table, shade Ramada, fire ring, grill and BBQ. Campground amenities include vault toilets. There is not water or trash collection. All gear, equipment, food, trash and sewage is pack in / pack out. There is also a pretty cool dinosaur skeleton playground structure at the campground. Cell service is poor.

Sawtooth Canyon – Area Recreation

Hiking and rock climbing are popular in the area, with numerous trails accessible from the campground including the Predator Wall Trail, Cliffs of Insanity Trail, Twin Towers Trail and others.  The Stoddard Valley OHV Recreation Area is also a favorite for OHVing. Other activities include mountain biking, picnicking, star gazing and wildlife viewing.
