Sheep Canyon Campground is located in a remote area of Anza Borrego Desert State Park and has 5 first-come, first-serve campsites. The primitive campground requires a high-clearance 4WD vehicle to reach and you’ll travel about 10 miles of dirt roads, hills and sandy washes. Trailers and RVs are not advised.
The campground is the place to be if you want seclusion and amazing stargazing opportunities. It also has a delightful vault toilet that doesn’t have a roof – just in case you’d like to stargaze while doing your business. Water is not available and neither is cell service.
Other primitive (not developed) campsites are also in the area. Developed campgrounds in the park include Borrego Palm Canyon, Tamarisk Grove, Bow Willow and Vern Whitaker Horse Camp.
Outdoor recreation in the area include hiking, mountain biking, stargazing, picnicking, photography and wildlife viewing.
